Residents in Westmorland and Furness looking for somewhere to warm up and have a hot drink and a chat will be able to choose from nearly 100 local “warm spots” this winter.
There are now Warm Spot venues all the way from Barrow to Alston operating from village halls, community centres, churches, libraries, pubs, and sports centres, some open every day and some just a few hours a week. Everyone is welcome and you will not need to give any explanation of why you are there.
To help people find the Warm Spot nearest them, a new website has been launched – westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk/warmspots. The site provides an easy way to find out which Warm Spots are open and what they offer.
As a minimum, a Warm Spot will offer a warm space, a warm welcome, someone on hand to talk to if you wish, and, in most cases, a hot drink (free or at cost). But many are offering a much wider range of facilities, activities, and support.

Now that the foundations have been completed, the steel framework is well underway for the new extension, which will house four additional classrooms, a sports hall, changing rooms and additional facilities.
Check out our latest video update below and find out information about the project.
Work has started to install the new wooden-clad crash barriers on Kirkstone Pass - the first of their type on a major road in Cumbria!
Great care is being taken to ensure the works not only improve safety on the pass, but respect this UNESCO heritage site in the heart of the Lake District National Park.
The wooden-clad on the safety barriers need no additional maintenance to what is usually required and as you can see from the photos, they make an outstanding difference visually and really complement the stunning surrounding landscape.
Improvement works on Kirkstone Pass are due to complete in March 2024 (weather dependent).
