Sixth form and college students across the Westmorland and Furness area received their A level and Tech level results yesterday (Thursday 17 August).
Exam results day is always a day of excitement, high emotions, and mixed feelings - depending upon individual results.
This is the first time these students have experienced national exams after GCSE exams for this cohort were replaced with teacher assessed grades after disruption caused by COVID-19.
The National Careers Service Exam Results Helpline is available for young people who need help or advice around exam results or next steps. To speak to a career’s adviser, call 0800 100 900 from 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week.

Early indications suggest average Level 3 results have fallen slightly compared to last year, as expected. Yet, they are higher than pre-COVID results for all measures collected.

As part of the Brilliant Barrow Place project a series of free family events ran over the summer with performances at the Dock Museum Amphitheatre and Barrow Market Hall.
Whilst this summer’s weather has been changeable, outdoor performances were not affected. The ever popular Professor Pumpernickel with his laboratory of lunacy performed in front of over 450 people where scientific experiments and audience participation gave families an opportunity to interactively learn scientific facts.
A further two performances will take place in Barrow Market Square:
- Astral circus will perform their circus show ― Wednesday 23 August at 11.30am and 2pm
- Matrix Circus will perform their ‘Wild Flowers’ - Aerial Circus Show ― Friday 1 September at 11.30am and 2pm
Make sure you’ve applied for free school meals and clothing grants if you’re eligible - even if your children are in reception or years 1 and 2.
The free school clothing grants are provided by Westmorland and Furness Council and are worth £50 for each Primary School child and £100 for secondary pupils. Anyone who’s successfully applied for free school meals, will also receive free school clothing grants (and access to other support too).
What’s more, if a family with children is eligible for free school meals but hasn’t applied for them, their child’s school could also miss out on a Pupil Premium payment from the government of up to £1,320 each year.
Anyone who’s already successfully applied for free school meals in the past, does not need to do apply again and will continue to receive them as normal.
Parents can apply online through the Westmorland and Furness Council website.
