A new policy on the introduction of 20mph limits is to be developed to assess requests for their introduction from Westmorland and Furness communities.
Introducing 20mph limits can promote safer roads, reduce congestion, reduce vehicle pollution and noise, enhance the environment for walkers and cyclists.
With more warm weather expected this weekend, many of us will be looking to spend more time outdoors enjoying the sun – but it’s important we do it safely.
During heatwaves, more people than usual get seriously ill or sadly, even die. With more warm weather on the way, make sure it does not harm you or anyone you know.
Visit the Westmorland and Furness Council website for top tips and advice on how to stay safe during hot weather, around bodies of water, and around fires.
The latest stage of safety improvements to the A592 Kirkstone Pass are now well under way.
A 6.8km stretch of the A592 between Brothers Water and the Kirkstone Inn is now closed and will remain shut 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until 30 June, weather permitting.
For full details of diversions, access to businesses and an overview of this important project on the Lake District's highest pass, visit our website.
Thank you for bearing with us while we carry out these vital improvements.
It’s the UK’s biggest call for action on climate change, taking place from 10-18 June 2023.
It’s not too late to find an event to attend near you, or add yours to the list!

We are on the lookout for venues across the Westmorland and Furness area with suitable facilities to host future courses for Schools and Settings across our Council.
We need a variety of venues to accommodate a range of groups from as little as 12 delegates up to those 150. These can be both indoor or outdoor venues, access to some IT equipment or WIFI would be beneficial. We would prefer venues with some parking or nearby public transport access if possible.
We are particularly interested in venues based at or run by social enterprises, charities, or NGO’s.
If you think your venue or space might be suitable and would like to find out more, please contact: school.development@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk
