Town criers proclaim new council

Town Criers have announced the first official day of the new Westmorland and Furness Council in Penrith, Kendal and Barrow, in the biggest change to local government in Cumbria since 1974.

The new council now takes full responsibility for all services previously provided by Cumbria County Council, Eden District Council, South Lakeland District Council and Barrow Borough Council.

From street cleaning to adult care services and from planning to highways
maintenance and much more besides – our new council will be responsible
for it all.

New website launched

Our new website has gone live today at westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk. The site brings together all the information and services previously available from the county and district sites. Given the size and complexity of the task of bringing four sites together, the new site will continue to develop over the coming months.

Have you received your council tax bill?

By now you should have received your new council tax bill from us. The bill includes a charge from us and separate charges for the police, fire and rescue service and your parish or town council.
