Twice a year we run our District Parish Conference where we get together with Town and Parish Councillors to discuss new ideas to benefit our communities.
Last night, we saw over forty representatives from across the district, in person and online, to cover a variety of subjects from pop up libraries to the impressive Berkshire Youth work to provide youth clubs and support to our young people.
Council Leader Jeff Brooks hosted the Conference.
He said, “The District Parish Conference is very productive and enjoyable. It’s a rare opportunity to see Councillors from across the district and to have meaningful discussions about how we can work together to make West Berkshire even better.
“We really value their attendance and input, and we want to make sure we are working closely with them; the District Parish Conference is a very important part of our relationship.”
We introduced online permits for our household waste recycling centres three years ago, replacing paper permits. Car permits are valid for three years, so some residents will soon need to renew to keep their access active.
If your car permit is due for renewal, you’ll receive an email 28 days before it expires. This will prompt you to log in to MyAccount, where you can renew your permit with just a few clicks. Even if your details haven’t changed, you must still renew your permit to avoid losing access.
If you’d like to update any details, you can easily do so from your MyAccount. Once renewed, your permit will be valid for another three years, ensuring continued access to our recycling centres.
Our Trading Standards Officers have been visiting relevant businesses to ensure that residents aren’t being sold faulty fireworks, that they are being stored correctly and safely (away from ignition sources and damp) and are not being sold to under 18s. They also check that businesses have the required licence to legally sell and store fireworks and that the fireworks being sold conform to the relevant safety standards.
Residents are advised to purchase fireworks from reputable retailers and steer clear from buying fireworks from markets, car boots or street sellers. Fireworks bought from these sources could be defective and may not meet UK safety requirements. It is worth checking that any fireworks purchased include a CE or UKCA safety mark.
If you are aware, or suspect, that fireworks are being sold illegally, or that unsafe fireworks are being sold, please report to Public Protection Partnership on 01635 519930 or email tsadvice@westberks.gov.uk
Reading Borough Council is sincerely apologising and appealing to motorists who may have paid penalty charge notices (PCN) which were incorrectly issued for parking contraventions in certain parts of Reading.
The Council has discovered that the Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO) on sections of the East Reading Red Route and some parking restrictions in other locations are unenforceable. Drivers who have paid penalties for parking on them will therefore be reimbursed.
Motorists who believe they were incorrectly issued with a PCN in the areas, and within the time periods, can claim a refund through the Council’s reimbursement scheme via the website.
