To All West Berkshire Libraries Customers
Welcome to our February news!
With the lifting of COVID restrictions in England, you are no longer required to wear a face covering when you visit a library, but as a courtesy to others we hope that you will continue to do so. We can assure you that our staff and volunteers will take every precaution necessary in order to help keep our communities safe. Thank you for your support with this.
We are delighted to welcome Educafe to Newbury Library, every Wednesday in February, 11am-2pm. This friendly community café provides a safe space for people to make new friends, eat and learn. Drop in to enjoy arts and crafts, games and puzzles, activities for parents with babies, IT support, a befriending service, our ‘chatty corner’ for anyone who wants to improve their English language skills, and lots more.
Refreshments provided – come and enjoy a chat and free cake. All welcome!
In addition to our regular events, look out for a number of extra activities for children during the half term break. These include:
All of these activities are free, no need to book. For more details, please contact the library concerned.
Don’t miss our Historical Fiction Week on Instagram, starting on Monday 14 February, when we will be highlighting some of our favourite novels with historical settings. We hope you’ll find plenty of suggestions for what to read next. All of the books we feature are available to reserve and borrow free of charge from us.
Our online crafts for children will be continuing at weekends on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as usual. If you missed this month’s online storytime you can catch up on YouTube now – listen to Chenoa from Newbury Library read Dog gone by the talented Rob Biddulph, recorded with kind permission from HarperCollins Children’s Books.
Good news for our younger readers - this year’s Winter Mini Challenge has been extended to 20 February. That’s more time for children to log their winter reads and play games. Sign up or log back in to the website to claim your rewards!
Thank you to everyone who dropped off donations for the West Berks Foodbank at Thatcham Library over the past 12 months. Library visitors donated food with a total weight of 67.2kgs last year – that's the equivalent of approximately 141 meals for Foodbank clients. Further donations are welcome during library opening times.
We're pleased to be working once again with the Corn Exchange, Newbury, who will be running their popular Creative Arts Clubs for over 55s in Hungerford and Theale Libraries during March and April.
Uncover your creativity and experience a different art form each week in a six-week course for beginners and experienced art lovers alike. The clubs will run on Tuesday mornings in Hungerford, 10.30am-12pm, and on Thursday afternoons in Theale, 2.30-4pm. Cost: £40, with materials provided. Places are limited and early booking is advised.
For more information and to book, please contact the Corn Exchange.
We hope to bring you our next newsletter in early March. Meanwhile please follow @WBerksLibraries on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or take a look on the app for the latest news about all that’s happening in our libraries.
