Council Leader Lynne Doherty and Chief Executive Nick Carter reflect on the death of The Duke of Edinburgh, the reopening of shops and hospitality, and the appointment of a new support agency for diverse ethnic communities here in West Berkshire.
Rapid Covid-19 tests (also known as lateral flow tests) are now available for all, providing you do not have Covid symptoms. Using this method for regular testing in the months ahead can help us all get back to normal.
Please note: If you have Covid-19 symptoms you need to book a PCR test for Covid-19 by either calling 119 or visiting: www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
Getting rapid Covid-19 tests for your employees
If you are a business owner who has registered for free rapid tests (lateral flow tests), you have until 30 June 2021 to order the tests for use in the workplace or for your employees to collect and take home.
Businesses that did not register previously now have two options available to them:
- They can either pay a government-approved provider to provide tests or run a testing site,
- Or they can ask their employees to get rapid lateral flow home testing kits or have twice weekly rapid lateral flow testing at one of our four testing sites.
For more information about approved providers, click here.
See more information about home testing options and community test sites in West Berkshire.

Fasting and Covid-19 vaccinations
The British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA) has advised that taking the Covid-19 vaccination does not invalidate the fast. There is no material of animal origin (including porcine content) in either the Pfizer BioNTech or Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.
BIMA has also certified that the Covid-19 vaccines are safe and effective.
We held two events online this week to provide an update on Covid-19, with the events attended by members of the public. If you weren't able to attend either of the sessions, they have been made available for replay as follows:
