There continues to be a high demand on the Covid-19 testing system nationally and this is causing some delays to getting a test. We know that this will cause some anxiety and make it harder for families – particularly those worried about work commitments or schooling if they or a relative have to self-isolate. However, it’s really important that we do all continue to follow the advice so that we reduce the spread of the virus and avoid any further restrictions.
The pressure is on the testing capacity at the labs and not at the test centres – so local testing centres may at times currently appear quiet even though booking slots may be harder to come by. This is because the Department of Health and Social Care is prioritising tests in areas where there are higher rates of Covid-19.
The advice from the DHSC is that if people are unable to get any tests at a convenient time or location is to wait and try again in a few hours when more testing slots will be released.
People should not turn up to any testing site without an appointment. If someone in your household has coronavirus symptoms you should continue to self-isolate while you arrange to get a test for all household members. Residents should only book a Covid-19 test if they have symptoms or if they have been asked to do so by NHS Test and Trace or a clinician.
Appointments or home test kits need to be booked at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.
Library customers will be able to access more services as we move to the next phase of reopening.
From Monday (21st September) customers will be able to choose and borrow books in person during limited opening hours at all West Berkshire libraries.
Customers will not need to book a time to visit, but the number of people within each building will be limited and so you may need to queue to get in. Library staff will ask you to keep your visiting time to about 30 minutes and to use the hand sanitiser provided on entry and exit. Track and Trace contact details will be collected at the door.
Please remember that wearing face coverings is now mandatory in public libraries.
Computers and printing/photocopying facilities will be available, but there will be fewer computers in order to ensure adequate social distancing.
There is more good news for those that are unable to visit your local library over the next few weeks but still have books at home that you borrowed before lockdown - the fines amnesty has also been extended and there will be no fines charged on items due for return between 20 March and 30 September 2020.
