School funding for SEND

The Government is seeking views on how local authorities could increase the funding mainstream schools receive to support pupils with SEND.

Ahead of statutory changes, they are seeking views on temporary arrangements to allow local authorities to increase the funding mainstream schools receive to support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

EOTAS (Education Other Than At School)

The Government is also seeking views on how to strengthen arrangements for children and young people who are:

• receiving special educational provision through an education otherwise than at school (EOTAS) arrangement
• not attending school and receiving alternative provision because of health reasons
• receiving alternative provision in accredited online education providers

They want to understand how:

• support can be improved
• responsibilities should be clarified
• provision can be better quality-assured

And on how arrangements can support improved outcomes. This includes progression and, where appropriate, reintegration.

Gem Centre Summer Fair – Free Family Event

Join us for a fun-filled Summer Fair, celebrating 20 years of the Gem Centre 

Families are invited to enjoy a day of activities, stalls, and entertainment, while learning more about the services we provide for children, young people, and families.

- Meet your Gem Centre services  
- Raffle and tombola to help us raise charitable funds
to make improvements to the Gem Centre.

This event is FREE and open to all. Come along, meet the Gem Centre teams, and enjoy a day of community, connection, and fun as we celebrate and support the families we care for. Save the date and invite your friends and family

Places are still available for children and young people to enjoy activities happening across the city this summer holiday. 

Sessions include swimming, basketball, racket sports, tennis, volleyball, youth gym, art club, Jiu Jitsu, skate park and much more. All activities include a meal provided with every session.

The Wolverhampton Sanctuary Hub offers its fortnightly ADHD group to young people aged 18+. Whether you are on the assessment pathway or have received a diagnosis of ADHD, the sessions offer an opportunity to connect with local people with shared experience and gain practical tips for everyday life.

Upcoming events

Black Country Stay and Play  8 August- 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm Book at: Black Country Stay & Play | Autism West Midlands Stay and play event for Autistic children age 2 – 12 years on the assessment pathway or diagnosed. Taking place at Sycamore Adventure, Dudley. This is a great opportunity to meet other local parents and carers on their Autism journey and for children to play and explore in a safe secure environment. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult during the session.

Autism and Girls webinar 11 August- 10:0am to 11:30am Book at: Autism and Girls - Online Training | Autism West Midlands Understand why girls often find it more difficult to obtain a diagnosis, particular challenges autistic girls may face and how to support autistic girls
