Business Panel Tips

💬 Lessons in Leadership: Reflections from Female Founders

As part of our ongoing spotlight on entrepreneurial journeys, we asked two inspiring business leaders—Fungai Ndemera and Jane Sommerville—to reflect on their first three years in business and share their most valuable lessons.

🔄 What Would You Do Differently?

  • Fungai Ndemera: “I’d delegate earlier. Being too hands-on slowed our growth. Building a strong leadership team from day one would have freed me to focus on the bigger picture.”
  • Jane Sommerville: “Don’t dwell on past mistakes—learn from them. Every setback is a chance to grow.”

🌟 Best & Most Challenging Aspects of Running a Business

  • Fungai: “Creating impact through tech—like saving the NHS £4 million with CheckUp Health—has been deeply rewarding. The biggest challenge? Navigating uncertainty, especially around funding and regulation.”
  • Jane: “The freedom to shape my own path and build lasting client relationships has been incredible. But adapting to change and making tough decisions has tested my resilience.”

🧠 Advice to Your Younger Self

  • Fungai:

    1. Invest in yourself—build networks and leadership skills early.
    2. Celebrate failure—it’s your greatest teacher.
    3. Blend passion with strategy—ground your vision in research and planning.
  • Jane:

    1. Approach challenges with confidence.
    2. Set ambitious goals that stretch your limits.
    3. Build a balanced team that complements your strengths.
