Workplace Transport Safety

Workplace Transport Safety: Stay Informed, Stay Protected

In 2024–202514 workers in Great Britain tragically lost their lives after being struck by moving vehicles in the workplace. This stark statistic highlights the ongoing risks associated with workplace transport and the urgent need for proactive safety measures.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) continues to emphasise the importance of managing vehicle-related hazards. Their comprehensive guidance focuses on three key areas:

  • Vehicle Safety – Ensuring vehicles are properly maintained and fit for purpose
  • Site Safety – Designing safe traffic routes and segregating pedestrians
  • Lift Trucks – Providing proper training and supervision for operators

Employers are encouraged to consult HSE’s essential publications:

  • A Guide to Workplace Transport Safety
  • Workplace Transport Safety – A Brief Guide
  • Rider-Operated Lift Trucks (L117)

These resources offer practical advice to help reduce risks and protect workers.

Improving awareness, training, and site planning are critical steps in preventing future incidents and fostering a safer working environment for everyone.
