Yo! Wolves summer activities book now!

Yo! Summer

Yo! Wolves summer programme is now underway and offers another huge array of things to do during the school holidays, at venues across the city. Most activities include food.

The #YES Board approved and funded a new provider Ace Coaching for young people this summer.

There's a FREE summer of fun courtesy of Yo! Active here in Wolverhampton!

Children and young people can take their pick from a wide range of activities every week over the summer holidays, including swimming, gym access, court hire, multisports, basketball, tailored sessions for under 5s and much more!

YO! Ambassadors look at Yo! Active provision

Yo! Ambassadors

Some members of the #YES Board have chosen to become YO! Ambassadors to support the promotion and uptake of the FREE YO! Active programme for young people in Wolverhampton.

They went to visit one of the free activities hosted at WV Active which was the FREE Youth Gym at the Bilston Bert Williams WV Active.

This years Youth Council have been busy advocating for Young People across the city influencing the work around issues such as oral health, climate change and the major investment coming into Bilston! Speak to your local Youth Councillor in your secondary school to get your voice heard on important issues like these.

Sienna your Member of Youth Parliament was invited to a recent Youth Convention to join other Youth Councillors and other members of Youth Parliament from around the West Midlands region.

Here she shared her most recent accolades including being chosen to be part of the Youth Select Committee on Social Media and Youth Violence which is supported by the NYA and the House of Commons as well as her visit to Number 10 Downing Street!

Members of our Youth Voice Groups had their first Task and Finish Group session to look at the impact of addiction which included drugs, alcohol and soft gambling and what can be done to support young people who are directly or indirectly affected by it.

Our youth council members were given a VIP opportunity alongside the Leader and cabinet members to go along to grand opening of the newly refurbished Lockworks Cinema which has now opened in the city centre.

Our Youth Voice members had the opportunity to go to The Studio in Birmingham to discuss and review work experience in the region for young people from open panels to employers marketplace where young people get the chance to speak to employers and see what is available for them to develop.

HY5! along with HY5! Ambassadors from Broadmeadow Special School hosted a summer social with City of Wolverhampton Council SEND & Inclusion Partnership Board to celebrate a year of collaborative work. Their work is inspiring change in having inclusive places and spaces, good help by well-trained workers and good services so young people can grow up to live their life the way they imagined.

Children in Care Week (14 -18 March 2025)

Did you know that in Wolverhampton we have a week where we provide free activities for Young People In Care!? This year, thanks to City of Wolverhampton Council, young people had the opportunity to go to activities like Go Kids Go and Ninja Warrior for FREE!

Councillors visit to the Children in Care Council

The Children in Care Council had some special visitors come along to one of their regular meetings at The Oasis Hub: our local councillors! They wanted to come into their environment, spent time with them and had discussions around what more they both could do to support care-experienced young people from Wolverhampton.

National Championship Cup - Care Leavers

Care leavers championship cup

Over 200 young care leavers from across England gathered at Molineux Stadium for the highly anticipated National Championship Cup 25 recently – with the event receiving praise in the House of Commons.

Organised by the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Reach Leaving Care Team in collaboration with Wolves Foundation, the inspiring six-a-side football tournament offered care experienced young people aged 16-24 the opportunity to compete, connect, and showcase their skills on Molineux's hallowed turf.

Personal Education Plans: Speaking up to our teachers!

A member of our Children in Care Council presented to a large group of teachers who support our Care-Experienced young people in schools across Wolverhampton. They led a meeting to share how our teachers can support young people better to engage them in their Personal Education Plans. More power to you! 


Care Leavers Independence Collective and Children in Care Council

The Children In Care Council and our Care Leavers Forum both attended the Corporate Parenting Board full of Officers from the council, Councillors and Partners to share with them what they have been doing last year in 2024 and their plans to support care-experienced young people in 2025 and how they could help to support their priorities for the year.

As you may or may not know, at City of Wolverhampton Council, our young people have been given the opportunity to have a major say on who gets employed across Children's Services. And on the back of that, they have recently employed Clare who is now our new Service Manager for Children and Young People in Care.

The Rees Foundation is proud to collaborate with a number of cafes across the UK, offering a safe social space for care experienced people in the heart of the community. The cafés offer affordable, high quality food and drinks and are very welcoming of all care leavers and their Rees Guest Cards.

Virtual School Opportunities Stepping Forward: Introduction to Performing Arts

Virtual School

Stepping Forward is a new and exciting programme of online videos and activities to introduce the performing arts to young people in care aged 13-17, with the prospect of learning new life skills to help with future opportunities.  

If you have an interest in this (and would like to earn up to £200 paid into their CTF/JISA) all you have to do it work through the 6 stages: having a go at the activities & learn about careers in performing arts!

Theatre

From time to time Virtual School have opportunities for CYP in care to go to the Theatre. In the past we have been given tickets for shows in Birmingham Hippodrome and London’s West-End with shows such as Hamilton, Phantom of the Opera and Mary Poppins.  These shows have been followed by an educational workshop where careers in the theatre (from lighting to acting) as discussed as well as showing the audience how some of the special effects on stage are created!
