Easter Yo

Yo! Wolves Easter programme is still taking bookings and offers another huge array of things to do during the school holidays, at venues across the city. Starts Monday 14 April to Friday 25 April. Yo! Active

More egg-citing activities have been added to Yo! Active throughout Easter, so check out our free activity programme in partnership with Wolves Foundation that offers activities that include Nerf games, splash and dance and mixed martial arts fitness at WV Active sites and community venues across the city. Celebrations as city’s youth councillors elected

The 49 successful candidates – who attend schools across the city – were officially announced at a special event in the Council Chamber earlier this year.

The Mayor of Wolverhampton Councillor Linda Leach was joined by the Leader of the Council Councillor Stephen Simkins, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education Councillor Jacqui Coogan, Alison Hinds, Director of Children’s Services, Rachel King Deputy Director of Children’s Services and other councillors to welcome the new youth councillors.

The event, chaired by the Youth Council Chair Harleen Nahal, also provided an opportunity to share a film about being involved in the Youth Council.

City’s ‘youth voice’ get Full Council experience

Full Council

Members of the City of Wolverhampton Youth Council and other youth groups found out about local politics at a replica Full Council meeting.

Deputy Mayor of Wolverhampton Councillor Craig Collingswood , the Leader of the City of Wolverhampton Council Councillor Stephen Simkins, councillors, youth councillors and other young people came together in the Council Chamber at the Civic Centre.

The mock Full Council enabled the city’s ‘youth voice’ to experience what it’s like to be a councillor, and how the role impacts on decisions made for the city.

Youth councillors came prepared with three reports and recommendations about issues of concern that affect the younger population in the city:

  • My Tomorrow Campaign developed by young people and highlights the challenges around youth violence
  • Drug and Alcohol support services for children and young people
  • Gambling harm, affecting children and young people. Full story

 

House of Commons calls city's Young People

Wolverhampton's two Youth Members of ParliamentSienna Ahir and Jobe Thompson met with Wolverhampton MP Sureena Brackenridge and MP Warinder Juss, to update them on their work and help with preparations for the House of Commons debate.

Then it was off to experience life on the famous green leather benches at the House of Commons Chamber. MYPs aged 11-18 represented the views of their peers and held debates on a range of topics.

Wolverhampton’s Youth MPs Sienna Ahir and Jobe Thompson had the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter the most to them in the debate.

The topics that were debated by the Youth MPs were as follows:

  • 16 and 17-year-olds should be allowed to vote in all elections and referendums, accompanied with more political education throughout school
  • That the National Minimum Wage for every worker under 22 be raised, to match the National Living Wage for those over 22                             
  • All public transport should be free for young people
  • All young people in the UK must have access to a standardised level of political literacy and democratic education to improve engagement in politics on a local, national and international level to develop critical thinking skills
  • To establish period dignity, there should be free, accessible, good quality period products available in public spaces for everyone.

Members of HY5! enjoy tea with The Mayor

The Mayor Councillor Linda Leach and Consort Mr Pete Mason shared a celebration tea with members of the city’s HY5!.

The celebration, which was held at Cherry Street, SEND & Sensory Hub in Wolverhampton was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of HY5, who were recently recognised at the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Programme’s Best Practice Awards 2025, sponsored by the NHS.

The awards recognised outstanding best practice in Health for children and young people with SEND who are making a difference to drive change. HY5! won in the Children and Young Person Voice for Change category. Read more.

HY5! attends Youth Voice Matters Conference 2025

HY5! members and the Youth Participation Team travelled to Manchester to participate in this year's Youth Voice Matters Conference to get their voices heard. This year's theme was strength and resilience. Why is it important to take care of ourselves and support each other while using our voice to promote our rights? HY5 On The Move!

HY5! Has been to the Gem Centre, a place where children and young people can get help and support from various health services.  HY5! were interested to find out how accessible the Gem Centre is for children and young people with additional needs and disabilities.  Their findings and recommendations about what’s good and what could be better has been shared with the centre's staff and we look forward to hearing about their progress.

I Awards 2025

I awards

This year's annual I Awards was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate with hundreds of the city's care-experienced young people and care leavers. Held at Grand Station, VIPs, councillors and professionals joined in to celebrate the achievements on the night!

Children and young people received awards in recognition of their achievements in three categories - individual, intellectual and independence. There were also special awards for an inspirational child in care and inspirational care leaver who really showcase children and young people’s talents and potential. Read more.


The Little House

The Children in Care Council have had some oversight of the City of Wolverhampton Council’s new residential homes before they open their doors. A member of CiCC went on a visit to inspect and ensure that the home was suitable for our care-experienced young people.
