NEW for 2025! 
IASS SEND Surgery

We are delighted to announce that the IASS team will be delivering a SEND Surgery every fortnight at Cherry Street SEND and Sensory Hub, Cherry Street WV3 0QW.

Each session we will have a specific SEND focus, as well as offering a coffee and chat for parents, carers and young people who may have any questions or queries related to special educational needs and/or disability.

Our first session is on:

Thursday 9 January 9.30am to 12.30pm

“Getting the right support at the right time”

Drop in and have a chat any time from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

Join Wolverhampton IASS for a workshop on supporting parents and carers through the process of reviewing a draft EHCP.

Discover:

- What information should be include in reviewing your child's draft EHCP

- The importance of the parents/carers views and the child/ young person's wishes and feelings being captured

- The importance of their SEND needs and required provisions being truly reflective of their current circumstance

- The importance of SMART targets which are measurable, specific, realistic and achievable

- How to provide your views and feedback on the draft EHCP and request any amendments.

Parents and guardians of children who will start school for the first time in September 2025 are being urged to apply for places online now.

Applications for reception class places at infant and primary schools in Wolverhampton is now open. The online application process is quick and easy, and families have until the deadline date of 15 January 2025 to register their preferences.

Civic Centre surgeries for primary school applications

Wolverhampton Council Customer Services are hosting face to face surgeries to support parents and carers of children starting Reception in September 2025. Attend on: 

Thursday 12 December 10:00am - 2:00pm
Thursday 19 December from 10:00am- 2:00pm
 Thursday 2 January from 10:00am- 2:00pm 
Thursday 9 January from 10:00am- 2:00pm 

Surgeries will run from the courtesy computer area of the Civic Centre (WV1 1SH). The team will be offering digital support advice, scanning services and information to promote and encourage customers to utilise the self-serve application option.


Inclusive music session for SEND pupils aged 11- 18

Inclusive music sessions

 

Wolverhampton children and young people with SEND aged 11- 18 who have an interest in music are invited to attend inclusive band building and music making sessions on Tuesday's 6:30pm to 7:15pm term time.

The sessions hosted by Big Top Musician will take place at Action for Independence (A4I) Albert Road, Wolverhampton WV6 0AF. No previous instrument experience needed. Sessions are free but reservation is required.

Music school

Music qualification for learners with additional needs 

 

Wolverhampton Music Service is offering a new qualification aimed at learners with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), or other support needs.

The Awards and Certificates in Musical Development are industry first, innovative qualifications which set a new standard for fully accessible, inclusive music assessments. They enable children and young people with learning difficulties to achieve a fully regulated qualification in any music making context.

 Awards and Certificates of Musical Development are designed to recognise how everyone engages with music and is open to all learners working with the Sounds of Intent Framework, with no age restrictions or other limitations.

Free online courses to help families

 

Free online learning resources for all Wolverhampton families has just launched, offering support and information on emotional health, child development and parental wellbeing from antenatal through childhood to adolescence.

City of Wolverhampton Council, in partnership with NHS’ The Solihull Approach, offers free access to inourplace evidence based online courses designed by NHS professionals.

Courses are tailored for all stages of a child’s development to help all family members through reflective, supportive learning without judgment.

The online resources include specialist emotional and mental health learning for teenagers, courses for grandparents and parents.

Autism Central has launched a new podcast, bringing together Autistic people, parents carers and professionals to talk about different aspects of Autism.

Their first series focuses on Sensory Processing and discusses sensory differences, supporting the sensory needs of a non- speaking child, and how you can be a sensory supporter for your child.

Yo! Wolves Active:
Christmas sports sessions

 

Throughout the Christmas break, Yo! Wolves Active is running fun fitness sessions at locations across the city, hosted by the Wolves Foundation.

Children and young people can enjoy a range of sports including tennis, Nerf club, youth gym, BMX and skating, dance, multi- sports, basketball and Brazilian Jiu Jitzu.
