Wolverhampton Safeguarding

Wolverhampton Safeguarding Week 2024 is taking place from Monday 18th - Sunday 24th November 2024.

Listed below are the sessions currently available for professionals in Wolverhampton during safeguarding week.  Please use the links to book your place!

It's not too late to support us by offering to deliver a training session during the week.  Please email WST@wolverhampton.gov.uk if you want to get involved.

 Training sessions available:


Fire Safety Awareness

The aim of this session is for all practitioners and professionals to be aware of how to identify, assess and promote the safety and wellbeing of their service users at risk of a fire, fire death or serious injury. 

It will help practitioners and professionals to recognise the individuals that are at risk of fire - which may be due to their lifestyle choices - and what opportunities there are to reduce that risk.

ICON for Practitioners

This training is designed to equip you with the knowledge, information and skills that you will need to discuss ICON: 'Babies cry, you can cope' with parents and carers.

The training will help you to:

  • share the message that crying in babies is normal
  • support parents and carers to soothe their baby and cope with their crying
  • understand more about abusive head trauma

Adult Safeguarding Referrals

This session will cover when and how to raise a safeguarding referral to report any concerns or incidents where you identify that an adult with care and support needs meets the safeguarding duty.  The session will also include a brief overview of the new electronic multi-agency referral form.

SPEAK - An introduction to suicide prevention skills

The key objectives of this session are to

  • To consider the attitudes, myths, and stigma that surround suicide
  • To recognise and explore the ‘signs’ that may indicate someone is having thoughts of suicide
  • To encourage an open, safe and sensitive conversation about suicide with a person having thoughts of suicide
  • To support a safety plan with someone thinking of suicide

No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF)

The training will assist practitioners in different fields to familiarise themselves with the different categories of immigration status that do not allow for access to public funds (known as 'NRPF') and different types of statutory support available to those with no recourse to public funds. The training will also cover immigration options for children with NRPF.

Prevent - Radicalisation and Extremism

This session will give you an introduction in to the Prevent duty, the forms of extremism and terrorism threatening the UK and develop your knowledge around the risks of radicalisation. The session will cover:

  • An overview of the prevent duty
  • An introduction to the different ideologies including Islamist, extreme Right-Wing, Left-Wing, Anarchist and Single Issue
  • A brief overview of the threat assessment for Wolverhampton
  • Common signs and symbols seen across the different ideologies
  • How to make a Prevent referral and the interventions and support available
