 Reflecting on Yo! Wolves success
The Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) fund was developed three years ago by Department for Education on the back of footballer Marcus Rashford’s concerns for children young people during the main school holidays.
This funding has been invested in Yo! Wolves, helping the popular school holiday activity programme go from strength to strength, and last year it provided food and activities to 6,612 children and young people in the city.
In a conference, held at the Civic Suite and opened by Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, local providers of school holiday activities, professionals and young people came together to look back, reflect on and celebrate the last three years. HY5! has also been on the move visiting Bob Jones and WV Active Aldersley to see some of the great facilities on offer to young people in the city and share ideas about how they can be made more accessible for those with special educational needs and disabilities. Young people in HY5! are now working with WV Active and the council about improving changing spaces, the use of disabled parking bays and accessible information.
Create a safer future for children and young people
Create it, shape it, embrace it - A new campaign that highlights the opportunities and challenges facing young people's lives has been launched in the West Midlands.
The overall aim is to prevent and reduce violence in our communities, by ensuring young people's voices are heard and influence those things that shape their lives and support change and to ensure that every young person thrives.
