IASS needs you!
Calling parents and carers… would you like to join our Advisory Group?
The WIASS Advisory Group includes representatives from education, health, social care, parents/carers, young people, IASS and other partners.
The aim of the group is to support the continued development and best practice of Wolverhampton Information, Advice and Support Service in a way that best meets the needs of children and young people with SEND in Wolverhampton and their parents and carers.
The group meets once a term to:
- evaluate how well the IASS meets statutory requirements and achieves the IASS Minimum Standards
- receive an annual report on the activity and effectiveness of the IASS which may lead to actions and recommendations
- monitor and review the impact of the service on improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND and their parents and carers using service user feedback
- act as a ‘critical friend’ and consultative body to the IASS
- support the IASS Manager
- celebrate IASS success
- support promotional activity of the IASS
Our next meeting is Thursday 7th March.

Yo! Wolves February activities
Throughout February half term, organisations across Wolverhampton are hosting activity sessions for children and young people to enjoy.
Events include arts and crafts, sports, cooking, animal handling, sensory play sessions, football camp, film making and music production.

Join Kidz to Adultz on Thursday 14th March 2024 at Coventry Building Society Arena, CV6 6AQ for their free exhibition dedicated to supporting children and young people with additional needs.

Equality Act in the Early Years training for parents and carers: 8 February and 13 March
The Council for Disabled Children offers parents and carers its free webinar 'Equality Act in the Early Years' on 8 Feb and 13 March.
The training session will summarise how the disability duties in the Equality Act apply in the early years; Consider how the definition of disability applies to young children and offer help to parents/carers to understand what is expected of early years practitioners to make reasonable adjustments for early years children in accordance with the Equality Act.

CAMHS is running a series of free virtual workshops to help parents and carers support their child in navigating mental health challenges.
This is open to any parent or carer with a young person accessing Black Country CAMHS services.

Healthcare passports
The healthcare passport 'All About Me' was published for those who access Children's Services at The Royal Wolverhampton Trust, to remove their anxiety about meeting healthcare professionals for the first time.
The 12- Page document enables healthcare professionals seeing a child for the first time to understand their medical needs and how they ca be best supported.

Nasen training: Improving outcomes for learners with vision impairment at post- 16

Back to the Future The Musical: Autism friendly performance
On Sunday 10 March at 3pm, The Adelphi Theatre, London is hosting an Autism friendly relaxed performance of 'Back to the Future The Musical'.
During the show significant adjustments are made to sound and lighting, house lights left on, chill out sensory zones available and relaxed theatre rules.
