Check before you chuck!

City residents are reminded to check their recycling before they put it into their black bin.

Due to a large amount of incorrect items being put in recycling bins, the volume of contamination is high, which is costing taxpayers more than £185,000 per year. As a result the council are making changes to collections. From Monday 29 January, recycling bins will not be collected if they contain incorrect items.

Smestow Valley to be improved and protected

Plans to improve, promote and protect the wildlife, heritage and natural beauty of Wolverhampton’s Smestow Valley Local Nature Reserve have received initial support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Development funding of £217,000 has been awarded by the Heritage Fund to help City of Wolverhampton Council progress its plans to apply for a full grant of around £2 million for the delivery phase.

Officers will work with schools, community groups and residents to find out how people would like to get involved and encourage them to take part in ecological surveys and heritage discovery days to help protect the nature reserve for the future.

Measles is a very infectious disease spread by coughs and sneezes. It can spread rapidly among communities, including schools, if people have not had two doses of the MMR (Measles Mumps and Rubella) vaccine. It doesn't just affect young children, and anyone who has missed their MMR vaccination is at risk of catching it.
