The new Wolverhampton Investment Prospectus was officially launched at MIPIM this week.

The prospectus is a live digital document which can be regularly updated in response to changes in economic conditions and reflects the city’s ambitions for growth. Future opportunities identified through the Wolverhampton Local Plan will also be considered as the prospectus evolves.

It presents an ambitious vision of how the city can grow through investment, development and regeneration - and highlights opportunities to build on the billions of pounds of public and private sector investment already on site or in the pipeline in Wolverhampton.

Delivery strategy for trio of city centre schemes

Proposals will transform leisure, residential and commercial offer

St Georges

City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet will be asked next Wednesday (March 22) to approve the delivery strategy for three key schemes that will transform the city centre’s leisure, residential and commercial offer.

This forms part of the city’s approach to Levelling Up after being identified as one of the initial two pathfinder locations in the Levelling Up White Paper, with the council working closely with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to explore opportunities.

The trio of investment and development opportunities – also outlined in the city’s investment prospectus - include the sites at City Centre West (formerly referred to as Westside), St George’s (the site of the former Sainsbury’s supermarket), and the Accelerated Sites portfolio.

Each scheme will be subject to full business case development and future Cabinet approvals as the detail develops.

Call for 'exciting offers' for city cinema space

Expressions of interest invited for Chubb Buildings opportunity

Chubb

City of Wolverhampton Council has moved quickly to find a new operator for the city centre cinema within the historic and award-winning Grade II-listed Chubb Buildings.

The council, as landlord, has joined forces with property specialists, Bruton Knowles, to launch a call out for expressions of interest from independent cinema operators and other creative organisations for the Fryer Street venue.

The council is also working closely with the Chubb Buildings landlord, MIA, who oversee a range of businesses and food and drink outlets already within the buildings.

After receiving the keys back from the previous tenants last month (February), the aim is for a new cinema or creative arts operator to take over the running of the two-screen, 6,625sqft space this summer.

Brownfield plans to develop hundreds of homes

Proposals to clear old sites will pave way for new housing and jobs

Former Loxdale Primary School

City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Resources Panel is set to approve a major scheme to free up 7.5 acres of brownfield land for more than 200 new homes in the city.

The proposal would see council services in older buildings at the former Loxdale Primary School site in Bilston and Stowheath Day Training Centre in East Park relocated to new purpose-built facilities at the Hickman Avenue Depot in East Park, improving service operation and efficiencies.

Site clearance and remediation of the land would then be carried out to enable the sale of the land to development partners for the delivery of new energy-efficient homes by modern methods of construction.

The report will be discussed at next Wednesday’s (March 22) Cabinet Resources Panel meeting.
