Last chance to see - Caribbean Front Room

Caribbean Front Room

On until Sunday 30 October 2022
Wolverhampton Art Gallery

Wolverhampton Art Gallery is delighted to present The Caribbean Front Room, curated by Juliet Whitter.

The exhibition offers a trip down memory lane, staging a typical front room and living room that would have been the hub of many local homes in the later decades of the twentieth century.

As well as recreating the rooms, Juliet has recorded personal stories of people who came to Wolverhampton during and after the Windrush era, when people from the Caribbean responded to a call from the British Government to help support industries after the Second World War.

On until Friday 6 January 2023
Bantock House Museum

‘Hana's Helpline’ was a stop-motion animation series for preschool children about Hana a duck who runs a telephone helpline for young animals with problems. It was first broadcast in Wales and then joined Channel Five’s ‘Milkshake’ in June 2007. Eventually it was broadcast in over 10 different countries around the world with 52 episodes made, winning many awards during its run. This exhibition looks at the Stop-Motion puppets from that series giving an insight into how they were created and animated.

Express & Star Photograph Volunteers

Express & Star Photograph Volunteers

Wolverhampton City Archives are calling out for volunteers.

Volunteers will be working with nearly a million photographs from the collection of the Express & Star newspaper, covering most of the 20th century. As part of the role you will be involved with checking the photographs for copyright details, sorting and numbering the collection, as well as repackaging items and storing them. There will also an opportunity to list and catalogue the photographs, following our Cataloguing Standards. Although the physical sorting and arranging will be taking place onsite at Wolverhampton City Archives, once the material has been digitised there will be an opportunity for volunteering to work on the collection virtually and remotely from home.

Onsite volunteering will take place Thursday mornings between 10am and 12pm (although you will not be required to commit to every Thursday). To find out more or to register your interest, please get in touch with Senior Archivist Heidi McIntosh.
