New Attendance Guidance from September 2022

New School Attendance Guidance was published on the 6 May 2022, which comes into effect on a non-statutory basis from the academic year 2022/23. It is expected it will become statutory no earlier than academic year 2023/24 enabling local authorities and schools with time to transition. The guidance sets out changes to responsibilities for schools and local authorities regarding school attendance.

Information sessions for attendance leads in schools will be arranged during the Autumn term, where the new expectations and responsibilities will be shared. This includes all schools having a Senior Leadership Attendance Champion, and a named Local Authority Officer who will be the Single Point of Contact for each school (SPOC).

The Education Welfare Service will be contacting all schools in the next week, requesting for direct contact details for the SLT staff member with responsibility for attendance and the school attendance officer. This will enable us to share communication for the information sessions, directly with the most appropriate personnel in schools.
