Message from Phil Leivers - Head of Education Excellence

Dear colleagues,

Happy New Year!

Welcome back. I hope that you managed to have a rest and enjoy time with family and friends.

I know that you will have been busy the last few days trying to ascertain how many staff would be available for today. Hopefully you have enough to open safely. You will also be aware of the latest DfE guidance that was issued last weekend. We will consider this in detail at the Engagement session tomorrow, Wednesday 5 January 2pm, along with the latest local information on the Covid-19 rates.

In summary there have been updates to include:

  • the use of face coverings in classrooms for year 7 and above
  • the list of vulnerable children and young people, and who this includes
  • on-site Covid lateral flow tests for secondary pupils on return to school, with students and staff encouraged to test twice a week
  • information for education settings on the provision of remote education
  • an update on Ofsted inspections due to take place in January
  • advice on COVID-19 vaccinations for at-risk 5 to 11 year olds, booster doses for at-risk 12 to 15 year olds and all 16 to 17 year olds
  • information on exams and assessments taking place in January

Also can I remind you that the DfE is expecting daily reporting of staff and pupil attendance and cases. Please can you ensure that this is done as it will give us vital information about the status of the school provision and will also feed into the national picture that will be used to brief ministers.

Look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow

Best wishes

Phil
