Send Inspection

SEND Inspection Feedback

You may be aware that inspectors from Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission visited Wolverhampton from 20 to 24 September to review the SEND provisions within the city.

The IASS team would personally like to thank all parents, carers, young people and professionals that took the time to attend the focus groups and virtual meetings.

Your voice and input has been invaluable for the inspection and will continue to be so to help shape the services for children and young people with SEND and their families in Wolverhampton.

The full details of their report will be published within the 33 days following their inspection and we will inform you where to access the full report in our November E- Bulletin.

Join the movement!
Have your voice heard!

HY5! Is a dedicated group of young people who are helping to inspire change for fellow youngsters with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) across the city. The members of HY5! have special educational needs or disabilities themselves and want to make Wolverhampton a better place to live for children and young people with SEND. They are addressing everything from education and leisure activities to training and job opportunities.

HY5! are encouraging 11 to 25 year olds from Wolverhampton with experience of SEND services to join them. The group meets every two weeks and offers young people the chance to develop their skills, such as communication, presenting and an opportunity to build their confidence.

If you are a young person with SEND, or know someone who might be interested in joining HY5! please contact Alison Baggs by email alison.baggs@wolverhampton.gov.uk or call 07816 085105.

Carer Support Service

The Carer Support Service offers a range of support for carers of adults (ages 18+) living in Wolverhampton.

A family carer is anyone who provides support for a relative, friend or neighbour without payment. The person that you look after may have a mental health need, learning disability, physical and sensory disability or may be an older, vulnerable person.

The Carer Support Team can support you in your role by offering:

  • Practical information, advice and guidance
  • Carer’s conversations ( Carer’s Assessments)
  • Benefits advice
  • Signposting
  • Emotional support
  • Carers emergency card
  • Carers chat on zoom
  • Short break caravans

What is a carers conversation:

This is an opportunity for you as a carer to talk about your caring role and that impact it has on your life with a carer support worker. You will be able to work through a plan to support you in your caring role.

Carers emergency card:

Carers are offered an emergency card once they have had a Carer's Assessment so that if the carer was in an accident or emergency, the card would identify them as a carer and a contingency plan can be put into place.

For more information or support in your caring role contact the Carer Support Team by email carer.support@wolverhampton.gov.uk or call 01902 553409.

Include me too therapy

A new emotional and wellbeing support service for disabled children, young people and their families has been launched in Wolverhampton. The support service has been commissioned by HeadStart Wolverhampton and will be delivered by Include Me Too, a national charity based at the city’s Newhampton Arts Centre.

Include Me Too piloted the service early this year in response to families’ concerns about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of disabled children and young people. Restrictions meant they were unable to access educational settings, or physiotherapy, speech and language or behavioural support services.

The new support service aims to help disabled children, young people and their siblings to better understand and manage their emotions and feelings through a series of sensory and holistic interventions.

Include Me Too will deliver a programme of workshops offering a range of approaches, activities and strategies to support children and young people’s mental and sensory wellbeing. The charity will provide access to a range of sensory holistic resources, including Include Me Too’s FAB Sensory Therapy POD, sensory therapy workshops covering mindfulness, yoga, meditation, sensory safe spaces and grounding techniques, with a range of inclusive resources.

Families will need to register for this free service and places are limited due to the commitment required from each family to complete the eight week programme.

Please email im2@includemetoo.org.uk or call Mina on 07940 367753.
