The concrete frame and upper floors for City of Wolverhampton Council’s eye-catching modern office development i9 are close to completion.
In a little over three months contractors, GRAHAM, have already installed the pre-cast concrete columns and floor slabs, with just the roof level structure to be put in place on the six-storey building.
The development has already become a prominent feature of the city centre’s skyline and once the frame is finished in the coming weeks work will begin on adding the brick-faced, pre-cast external facade.

Former British Steel land to be remediated for new homes and jobs

City of Wolverhampton Council has secured a nine-acre site integral to its transformational Canalside Quarter city centre project.
The now vacant former British Steel site located off Qualcast Road and adjacent to the Wyrley and Essington Canal canal basin represents a significant parcel of land as part of one of the most strategic brownfield regeneration schemes in the region.
The acquisition demonstrates the council’s commitment to investing in long-term regeneration programmes beyond Covid-19 and will create a new vibrant city quarter through the delivery of homes, public realm and wider employment and job creation.

City to host Commonwealth Games time trial
Historic West Park to host prestigious Birmingham 2022 cycling event
Wolverhampton’s historic West Park has this week been named as the location for the start and finish of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games cycling time trial.
Often referred to as ‘the race of truth’, the time trial is a straight race against the clock for individual cyclists and is a real test of strength and endurance. Around 90 competitors are expected to take part across the men’s and women’s events.
West Park, which opened in 1881 and is considered one of the finest examples of Victorian parkland in the country, will provide a fitting backdrop to the start and finish of this exciting race, featuring the very best cyclists from across the Commonwealth.

City of Wolverhampton Business Week took place this year against the backdrop of unprecedented challenges for local businesses during a global pandemic.
This year’s Business Week was needed more than ever to bring people together - remotely - to raise awareness of how businesses can adapt by embracing digital and how we can reimagine our city and town centres in a world managing Covid-19.
The flagship event – the Business Breakfast – was hosted by renown TV and radio broadcaster and proud Wulfrunian, Sean Farrington, and attracted a live online audience of more than 300 people, who heard from a selection of keynote speakers.

New outdoor seating areas and wider pavements now in place

New seating areas outside pubs and cafes and wider pavements have been introduced in Wolverhampton as the council works to boost business and make the city centre safe and welcoming.
The measures aim to assist local restaurants and bars, while also making it easier for people to follow social distancing guidelines.
New requirements when eating and drinking out were announced by the Government last week and people are being encouraged to follow these latest guidelines as they continue to support local businesses.
