VIDEO: Old makes way for new on Interchange scheme

Early demolition works on phase 2 of Wolverhampton Railway Station’s multi-million-pound transformation are well underway.
Phase one of the new station opened to the public at the end of May and contractors Galliford Try have now started pulling down the old parcel shed prior to the full demolition works starting on the old station main building to make way for construction of the rest of the station.
The development works – part of the £150 million Wolverhampton Interchange programme connecting bus, tram and train in the city centre - have been cleverly designed in two phases to ensure the works do not impact on train services from Wolverhampton.
The new station building opened under phase 1 includes six ticket vending machines, new British Transport Police, toilet, accessibility and baby changing facilities, three retail units ready to be fitted out, and train crew accommodation.

Successful reopening of hospitality sector
Supporting businesses as they opened thier doors last weekend
The Council’s trading standards, environmental health and licensing teams were out and about at the weekend supporting the successful reopening of Wolverhampton's pubs and other hospitality businesses.
It comes on the back of the smooth reopening of the city’s non-essential shops and the High Street since June 15 and is the culmination of a lot of hard work over many weeks by the council’s Reopening the High Streets Safely group in partnership with the Police, Wolverhampton BID and Bilston BID.
The group has worked closely with businesses to understand how shops and venues intend to operate safely and has provided critical advice, information and resources to help businesses get back on their feet. Stewards and BID ambassadors have also been in place across the city to assist visitors.
Online support and resources for shops and businesses are available on the council website.

Consultation to take place in Summer 2021

The timetable for developing a new blueprint for how land across the Black Country could be regenerated in future years has been revised, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The draft Black Country Plan was due to go out for consultation this autumn, but this will now happen in summer 2021. The change provides the region with another opportunity to identify potential sites for housing and employment developments which haven’t been put forward to date, particularly those in urban areas. This call for sites will be open for six weeks from July 9 to August 20. Anyone who has already submitted a site does not need to resubmit it, although they can update the information already provided, if necessary. Read more...
