Future High Street Fund final bid submitted

Ambitious plans for west of the city centre laid out to Government

Victoria Sq

City of Wolverhampton Council has submitted a final bid for over £20million to the Government’s Future High Street Fund to help deliver its ambitious city centre vision.

Since putting forward an outline business case to the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government in January, the council has formulated its final plan with input from key city partners and businesses.

The plans focus on transforming 38 acres to the west of the city centre, focusing on Victoria Street, Bell Street, Fold Street, and public realm around the Civic Halls and the Westside development.

If the Future High Street Fund bid is successful it could create 450 new jobs, and potentially unlock the opportunity to deliver 100s of new city centre homes, a new 150-bed hotel, a fantastic new event zone and public space improvements which will make the city centre greener.

Business support

City of Wolverhampton Council has been working tirelessly to ensure businesses get their hands on vital grants available from the Government’s Small Business Grant Fund and Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund.

96% of eligible applications in Wolverhampton have been paid since the scheme went live on April 6.

That means 3,595 city businesses have accessed almost £40.7million of funding, while 143 applications are currently being processed or are awaiting further information from the businesses to satisfy the criteria.

The council is also working with organisations such as the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses, Black Country Growth Hub, local business forums and Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) to help secure alternative contact details for those eligible businesses who have yet to apply for the grant.

Eligible businesses who have yet to apply are being urged to submit their online form or get in contact with the council via the business support line on 01902 290242 between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Thursday or from 9am to 4.30pm on Fridays.

Businesses urged to back One City Fund

'No Place Like Home' fund will help homeless charities in the city

One City No Place Like Home

Businesses are being urged to support Wolverhampton’s One City Fund as it moves into the next stage of the crowdfunding project. The ‘No Place Like Home’ fund will raise vital money for charities throughout the city working with the homeless, including the Alternative Giving Campaign, Good Shepherd Ministry, Haven Refuge, P3 - People Potential Possibilities and Solace Community.

The ‘No Place Like Home’ fund aims to raise at least £10,000 for organisations supporting the homeless. Once the £10,000 mark is reached, 60% of the funds will be distributed to partner organisations. The remaining 40% will be made available as small grants to grassroot community groups supporting local people during the crisis.

The fund will build on the success of previous phases of the One City Fund, which have so far raised more than £51,500 for important organisations across the city who are providing vital help to those hit hard by the pandemic.
