School exclusions review:

call for evidence

The review on school exclusions carried out by Edward Timpson explored how headteachers use exclusion, and why pupils with particular characteristics are more likely to be excluded from school. The review gathered substantial evidence through submissions to the call for evidence and engagement with many organisations and individuals, including schools, local authorities, parents and children. The government response sets out a programme of work to respond to the recommendations.

Carers Leave

Carers Leave - have your say

The Government is currently exploring carers leave – and Working Families is working hard to ensure any proposals include a period of paid ‘adjustment leave’, to support parents of disabled children at the point their child is diagnosed or when there is a significant change in their child’s condition. If you think a day one right to a period of paid leave with the right to return to your job would have helped you to remain in work at any point, and are interested in helping make the case for ‘adjustment leave’, send Working Families an e-mail to advice@workingfamilies.org.uk

New Blue Badge rules in England

The government has confirmed that blue badge rules in England will be expanded to make it easier for people with hidden disabilities such as autism to qualify. The new rules will start to apply from the 30 August 2019. The entitlement will be automatic for scores above 10 points under the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) mobility test of being "unable to undertake any journey because it would cause overwhelming psychological distress to the claimant". See the Contact website for full details.
