Welcome to our first Wrexham County visitor information e-newsletter of 2021! This fortnightly news will aim to bring you ideas and inspiration for days out and stays in our area – plus it will also feature links to stories of interest and introduce you to businesses within the area that give such a great welcome! Although the message is “stay local” for now, as we head towards the Spring and see the potential for restrictions ease, we hope to welcome you all safely back to Wrexham County later this year! Feel free to stay in touch though as we’re here Monday – Saturday via email on; tourism@wrexham.gov.uk

Whilst we continue to battle the pandemic here in Wales, the message from us in Wrexham County remains to stay local and only exercise from home. Whilst we’d love to welcome you to our beauty spots and country parks, you still must not drive for anything other than essential reasons right now. Please think of our rural communities especially and keep the pressure off the roads, our NHS and our front-line services.
Wales will re-open and we cannot wait to welcome you back soon!

Trevor Basin and its surrounding area is a part of Wrexham county that we’re quite rightly extremely proud of. As one of Wales’s three World Heritage sites, it attracts over 300,000 visitors per year and there are now plans afoot to improve the visitor experience once there. Whilst Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is hugely impressive and a must-see during a visit to the region, it would be great if visitors could stay longer to enjoy more of what the site has to offer.
A Masterplan has been published by Wrexham County Borough Council, land-owners Solutia UK and Glandwr Cymru, which sets out to do just that. The plan, which would be implemented in stages, and includes a visitor hub, increased parking facilities and exciting activities including a tree-top walks. The plan also proposes the provision of overnight accommodation in the form of glamping facilities.
Developed over 3 years, with significant engagement with local residents, businesses and community groups, the next stage is to secure funding from the Welsh and UK governments in order to take this exciting plan forward. Read more here.
