On 26th January 2017, we shared the news that Unit 101 Battalion REME
may leave Wrexham’s Hightown Barracks.
Armed Forces Champion Cllr David Griffiths is inviting residents from
Wrexham and beyond to sign a petition urging the UK Government to retain an
Armed Forces presence in Wrexham.
Background
The petition follows Secretary of State for Defence Sir Michael Fallon’s
statement in December 2016 on the Strategic Defence and
Security Review. As a result of this review, Unit 101 Battalion REME
(Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) may relocate from Hightown Barracks
to Bristol. Whilst Ministers have told Ian Lucas MP that there are no
current plans to close Hightown barracks, Cllrs Pritchard and Griffiths
recognise the powerful role this petition will play as they seek reassurance
that the potential relocation of 101 REME will not trigger the gradual
depletion of an Armed Forces presence in Wrexham.

Supporters are invited to sign either:
