Hello everyone,
Waltham Forest is a great place to live and work for many people, but we want it to be the best place for all our residents. We want our residents to have a good quality of life, but the reality of inequality and deprivation means that not all people in our communities have the same life opportunities.
Having good quality homes, high quality education, access to health services and families feeling safe are the fundamentals that matter to people. Mission Waltham Forest is the golden thread in delivering exceptional services for residents and creating a more equitable borough.
You will know from your work with residents and from your own experiences that the cost-of-living crisis has not gone away. Local authorities across the country are facing serious financial pressures due to increased demand for our services and reduced government funding.
Over 80 families each week are presenting to us in housing need. We are caring for 1,000 more adults in their homes than we were before the pandemic. And one in four children in our borough live in poverty.
These are huge challenges that we can’t ignore. And we need radical changes to make radical improvements. We know it's an ambitious goal, but I remain hopeful because we have amazing, committed staff who will continue to bring the energy and commitment to deliver these transformational outcomes for residents.
 Our approach includes six Borough Missions that focus on the issues that matter most to our residents and set out how we will respond to these, and four Council Missions that outline how we must transform how we work to deliver on our vision for the borough.
