Development benefits the whole borough
We want to shape development around what residents need and how they can benefit from it, not just for now but for years to come.
The Local Plan Part 2 identifies potential future sites for development in Waltham Forest. This is so that we can set out planning requirements for areas where we expect to see new affordable homes, accessible green spaces, and environmental improvements, and new community infrastructure between now and 2035. With less than one week left until the consultation closes, we want you to have your say to ensure the views of local residents are considered in any future development.
As we saw in last month’s Social Impact Report, your input is important because council development projects are designed to deliver a range of additional benefits for the borough. For example, feedback on the Lea Bridge Area Framework helped transform an underused area into a biodiverse oasis in Perth Road, E10 with help from local primary school students. Similarly, working with Love North Chingford we were able to turn a patch of overgrown and unusable land owned by UK Power Networks into a brand new Pocket Park! Further improvements were made to the space using local housing growth funds, now maintained by local gardening volunteers.
Keen readers of Residents’ News may have also spotted the launch of the updated Waltham Forest Local Heritage List last month. On the back of public calls for a revised list, 93 diverse and characterful buildings, sites and public artworks from every area of the borough were added from a longlist of 140 nominations. The updated list is now more inclusive and reflective of our residents and communities and for the first time, includes examples of contemporary buildings, sites and features of high-quality design.
Check out the new and updated list – you might be surprised to learn something new and interesting about your local area. Going forward, impacts on these listed locally buildings and features will be considered in planning applications, recognising Waltham Forest’s rich heritage and storied history as we continue to build a borough fit for the future.
