What's On in July

We're here to keep your weekends packed with things to do locally and have got a blockbuster July edition of What's On in Waltham Forest.

This weekend pack your blankets and head down to Fellowship Square to watch the Wimbledon and Euro Finals on the big screen. With perfect views down the gentle slope of the lawn you can soak up the atmosphere whilst enjoying drinks from the event bar and delicious street food pop-ups. 

On 21 July we're welcoming Carnival back to Waltham Forest! The sun should be shining and there's a busy programme for you to enjoy - starting with a traditional carnival procession taking you towards a fête, with live performances, workshops, a festival market, plus a bar and lots of ways to participate and have fun for all the family.

The Leytonstone Arts Trail is on until Sunday 14 July, a celebration of creativity, explore amazing art right on your doorstep or learn something new in one of their workshops.

Wild Mix: Unplugged at Dreamhouse Records, 12 July

A special in-store, unplugged preview of the songs from Jenny Moore's new acclaimed musical, Wild Mix. Feat Jenny & the original ensemble: Bianca Stephens, Luisa Gerstein, Nandi Bhehbe, Sib Trigg and Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani. Wild Mix is a soaring 6-part song-cycle, with multi-layered vocals, intense beats and poignant storytelling, it asks: what does healing feel like? An unusually intimate sneak peek into the making of this moving body of work.

Leytonstone Outdoor Exhibition, from 13 July

Illuminating the billboards beside the Leytonstone High Road station, Leytonstone Stories features portraits of High Road business owners by local artist Meg Khan. It's an area filled with entrepreneurial spirit, friendship and a commitment to serving the community, a common thread which ties each of the 20 businesses featured in this commission by Seen the Stories together. The outdoor exhibition is opening on Saturday 13 July.

Summer Reading Challenge, 13 July

Welcome to the Marvellous Makers Summer Reading Challenge Launch! A fun-filled day of engaging activities, an opportunity to discover new stories at Walthamstow Town Square. Kick off your summer reading with a bang and join the challenge - unlock rewards along the way and achieve something amazing this summer. Celebrate the joy of reading with Waltham Forest Libraries. Drop in from 12-4pm, no need to book.

Leyton Más - the People's Carnival, 21 July

Carnival will begin with a People’s Parade procession starting from Francis Road at 1pm and ending at Coronation Gardens where there will be a magnificent carnival fête including live performances, workshops, and a festival market. You can expect dance and music troupes, plus a bar, record fair, market stalls and a range of community and creative activities.

Besse: Water, Rye and Hops - The Beer Opera, 24-26 July

Expect a black comedy involving feminist activism, rhyming couplets and the unpredictable effects that a single beer can create! Besse is an operatic triptych (presented as three acts) that fights the patriarchy with fermentation. A musical journey through the rich and forgotten history of women and beer - these are two hours of zingy and hoppy music for all!

Fellowship Square Gardens and The Arch by Henry Moore

The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Garden and Sensory Garden will be officially open from next week. Welcoming visitors into the newly landscaped gardens will be the iconic Henry Moore sculpture, The Arch, which is finding its home in the borough for the next four years. Information panels will tell the story of The Arch, and the original five relief sculptures on the north face of the Town Hall by John Frances Kavanagh. Designed as a space to provide reflection and contemplation, you're encouraged to visit and reconnect with nature.

Finals Weekend at Fellowship Square, 13-14 July

Watch the Wimbledon and Euro 2024 Football Finals on the big screen from the Fellowship Square lawns. Bring blankets, picnic chairs, your friends and family and enjoy a range of drinks from Pillars Brewery and tasty street food from Chickenish, Bana's Grill and Carne Street Food. They will be showing the Womens and Mens Wimbledon Finals and the UEFA European Football Championship Final. Free to attend but booking is essential.

Waltham Forest Town Hall Tours, 20 July

You'll learn about the history of the iconic Grade-II listed town hall building, which includes beautiful external adornments and sculptures and an internal war-time history, the Town Hall is one of the jewels of Waltham Forest. The tours will be taking place on the third Saturday of every month and include the inside of the building and new gardens at the north of the campus.

Led by qualified guide Joanna Moncrieff.

Marvellous Moths at the Wetlands, 27 July

Discover some of the marvellous moths that visit Walthamstow Wetlands overnight. For this early morning event, you'll be discovering and identifying what the Wetlands team have been able to catch in their moth trap put out the night before. Please note that the moths they are able to collect in the trap will be dependent on the weather conditions.
