We are launching the South Leytonstone Area Framework on Saturday 8 June following engagement with residents that took place in 2021 and 2022. The Area Framework aims to create a fairer and more equal neighbourhood and realise local benefits of potential development and investment. This includes better connections to transport and neighbouring areas and facilities, and improvements to high streets, parks, public spaces and making people feel safer.

Langthorne Park is an important and loved neighbourhood park at the heart of South Leytonstone. Over the past few months, you have told us that you would like to see improvements made to the park to make it safer, celebrate its natural spaces, and offer more community activities.

We have taken your ideas on board and commissioned Jonathan Cook Landscape Architects to help us draw up a plan and potential projects for the park.

Find out more on our project page or come meet the team on Saturday 8 June at the Langthorne Park Festival.

Watch Probably Not The Haircut

A close up of a person with a beard looking past the camera from the short film Probably not the haircut

A new film by local organisation, Idea Space, celebrates one of Leytonstone’s longest running businesses, Mario’s Barbers and its owner Costa, who grew up helping his Dad, Mario, run the shop. Probably Not The Haircut looks at the importance of community and gives you a glimpse inside the shop with Costa and his customers.

Mario’s Barbers on Leytonstone High Road has kept its traditional interior from the day it opened in 1967. It has affordable prices for local people, and has endured the test of time, thanks to Costa's and his father Marios's well-respected local reputations.
