On Wednesday 28 September, the Council held an evening drop-in session at Chingford Station Community Hub to launch the consultation. Over a hundred people attended to hear about the proposals from council officers followed by a question-and-answer session.
The plans seek to preserve and maintain its distinctive and eclectic mix of Victorian and Edwardian architectural styles across buildings, monuments, roads, street furniture and open spaces in the area.
Councillor Ahsan Khan, Deputy Leader for Waltham Forest Council and Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, said: “Waltham Forest has a rich heritage and North Chingford is no exception. The Council wants to better understand the thoughts of residents about the proposed new conservation area to protect, enhance and celebrate the heritage of North Chingford. I encourage residents who live, work, or visit the area to take part online and have their say.”
The consultation is open until Wednesday 26 October. For those who do not have online access, paper copies are available at North Chingford Library.

As it is the southernmost point of the borough, South Leytonstone is a key gateway into Waltham Forest and it is being improved with new homes and projects.
We want to hear from residents about what’s important in South Leytonstone on topics like community and open spaces, travel, shops, healthcare, and culture.
Working with the South Leytonstone community, we want to create a '15-minute neighbourhood’ Area Framework that reflects the needs of local people. This means everyone should have the things they need to lead a healthy and fulfilling life, including shops, parks, GPs, gyms, schools, libraries, theatres and more, 15 minutes from home, whether walking, cycling or by public transport.
Following feedback from residents in November 2021, a draft framework has been produced, showing ideas and possible projects that could be delivered to help South Leytonstone thrive for years to come.
The consultation is open until 18 November.
