Residents' News

Walthom Forest

As a Council we recognise the enormous pressures people are under, and we are trying to see what more we can do to support those struggling with the cost of living. Our new partnership with Citizens Advice offers residents struggling to pay for essentials such as food costs, energy bills and transport, grants of up to £750 to spend on these essentials.

We have already received 90 applications for funding, and money is already going to support those most in need. There is a range of funds available for those struggling. If you know someone in need or are in need yourself, don’t suffer in silence; apply by visiting our website.

Yesterday, the Waltham Forest Construction JobsFest was held at the London Academy for Sustainable Construction in Leytonstone. The event was a huge success with hundreds of local jobseekers meeting 25 employers, local and national, about new jobs. If you weren’t able to attend, find the jobs on offer on our website.

I know how important well-paid, high-quality local jobs like these are to all of you, and we’ll keep holding more events like these, the next Jobs Fair is at Wood Street Library on 26 February. And we’ll also continue to help people across the borough to find work through our Steps into Work service, which is available today, and supported over 500 local people over the past year.

Thank you

Grace

Testing for Covid-19

PCR Testing

If you have a high temperature, a continuous cough, or loss of sense of taste or smell, no matter how mild, you should get a PCR test and isolate.

If you don’t have these main symptoms but you feel ill with other symptoms that are new, persistent and/or unusual, you should also get a PCR test to rule out Covid-19.

Remember to take a rapid test before you go out to meet people and wear a face covering in crowded places.

Book your child’s MMR jab

NHS MMR

Cases of measles have been steadily rising both nationally and locally. Giving your child the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine is the best way to protect them from contagious infections that are easily spread among unvaccinated people.

The vaccine is safe and effective, and just two doses are needed to give your child the best protection. Contact your GP today to book your first or second MMR dose.

Are you self-isolating?

Self Isolation

It is still a legal requirement to stay at home if you test positive for Covid-19. Self-isolation is important to protect others and stop the spread of Covid-19.

Currently, you can leave self-isolation after five full days if your LFT test is negative on both days five and six.

If you are self-isolating, you may be able to get help with shopping, medicines, or financial support if you’re not able to work.

Jabs for over 12s during half term

Vaccine for 12 and over

Do you have a child aged 12 years or older who still needs to get their Covid-19 vaccine?

The following clinics are taking place over half-term so that they and the whole family can get a first, second or booster dose together.

  • Thursday 17 Feb: Leyton Cricket Club, E10, 3pm-7pm
  • Friday 18 Feb: Jubilee Centre, E11, 1pm-5.30pm
  • Saturday 19 Feb: Wood Street Health Centre, E17, 9am-1pm
  • Saturday 19 Feb: Walthamstow Library, E17, 10am-1.30pm
  • Sunday 20 Feb: Jubilee Centre, E11: 10am-2pm

Many countries are now restricting travel for teenagers that are unvaccinated, so don’t delay. No need to book, simply turn up. Children up to 16 years must be accompanied by their parent or carer.

If you have preferred timings, book on the NHS.
