In partnership with Waltham Forest Council, the Suntrap Centre in Epping Forest is hosting the inaugural Youth Climate Summit until the 8 November.
Over 30 schools, including up to 6,500 of tomorrow’s climate leaders, will get involved in a programme designed by young people for young people.
Combining both in person and online programmes, the summit will run concurrently with the second week of the COP26 Climate Conference in Glasgow, bringing a local focus to the discussion of a global issue.

As part of the Council's response to the climate emergency and residents’ requests for more electric vehicle charging points across the borough, it has committed to installing at least a further 206 electric vehicle charging points across the borough by April 2022.
The plans for extra charging mean there will be a minimum of 412 electric vehicle charging points, another stage on the Council’s journey to becoming a greener borough by building a network of infrastructure for electric vehicles.
The Vestry garden café is now open to the public, welcoming visitors to enjoy delicious, locally-produced food when they visit Vestry House museum and its grounds.
The new café is available to hire for private events. And look out too for our regular storytelling events for our younger residents, part of the Council’s commitment to give a Fair Deal for our young people by providing learning opportunities in their local area.
The new cafe in Walthamstow Village was opened by Cllr Paul Douglas on Wednesday, who was joined by special little guests enjoying a learning session with Chit Chat Pitter Pat.
We are currently looking for residents to join our Crime and Community Safety Citizens’ Panel.
We are looking for residents of all ages and ethnicities to help us understand how we can best tackle crime and improve community safety in our borough. By being part of this panel, you will directly shape policy and plans to ensure our residents are safe and feel safe.
So if you want to make a difference in Waltham Forest or know someone that would enjoy this challenge, please share with them.
If you’re planning to celebrate Bonfire Night on November 5 with family and friends who you do not live with, it's much safer to meet outdoors as this is one of the ways which will help to stop the spread of the virus.
In the seven days up to 30 October, there were 658 cases of people catching Covid-19 in Waltham Forest, which is why it’s important to protect yourself as there is still a risk of you picking up the virus and passing it on to others.
You can help stop the virus spreading by:
- Washing your hands
- Wearing your face covering
- Keeping your distance where you can
- Testing regularly
- Self-isolating when instructed to do
