Waltham Forest Council has unveiled a £5.5m support package focused on younger and older residents who have been worst affected by the pandemic, alongside a new lobbying campaign to ensure the borough gets a Fair Deal from central Government.
The funding pot announced includes a £1.4m investment in children’s services, a £400,000 investment to help people in the borough age well, and £230,000 of investment to connect Waltham Forest residents with good jobs.
The funding will be accompanied by an increase in campaigning of Government to ensure that Waltham Forest gets a Fair Deal and receives the level of support it deserves.

Top prize went to Sally Sculthorpe in the adults catergory, and Kerrisha Alexander-Thompson, aged 11, for the under 18s.
All this week we're celebrating National Adoption Week, raising awareness and generating a better understanding of the different experiences of adoption.
In Waltham Forest, we work in partnership with Coram, to provide support to everyone involved in the adoption journey and help children find a safe and loving home.
This National Adoption Week, You Can Adopt have put together a number of real life stories to help you learn how Adoption can change lives, not only for adopted children, but everyone involved.

If you’re over 50 and had your second dose over six months ago, you’re eligible for your Covid-19 booster and get extra protection to face the winter months.
And if you’ve not yet had your first dose of the vaccine, it’s not too late. In the last seven days, Waltham Forest has had over 600 new Covid-19 cases, so the virus is still very much here.
By having the vaccine, you can reduce your risk of infection by up to 80%.
This week, we have walk-in clinics at Walthamstow Library on Saturday between 10am-4.30pm and at Jubilee Centre in Leyton between 10am-6pm. If you’re going for your booster at Jubilee Centre, please pre-book your slot by calling 0203 1963 239

The children's flu vaccine is safe and effective and offered through GP’s or at school. It's offered every year as a nasal spray to children to help protect them against flu. It is free for:
- Children aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2021 – born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2019.
- All primary school children (reception to year 6).
- All year 7 to year 11 children in secondary school.
- Children aged 2 to 17 years with long-term health conditions.
Some children might be eligible for a flu-jab instead of the nasal spray. Speak to your GP or school nurse to learn more about this option. You can also find out if you’re eligible by visiting our website.
