Waltham Forest Council’s response to the landmark Climate Emergency Commission report identifies changing behaviours, delivering green job opportunities, and empowering young people as key to protecting our environment for future generations.
Most carbon emissions in Waltham Forest are caused by housing and transport. Taking action to reduce these emissions will help save money on fuel bills as well as contribute toward cleaner air. The Council has also pledged to plant even more trees and wildflowers across the borough, providing a boost to local wildlife including pollinators, starting with the Bulb Giveaway next weekend.
A key element of the plan will see the Suntrap Centre undergo a £4.5 million refurbishment to create London’s first climate campus for young people, delivering a curriculum that informs and empowers them to take meaningful action to protect our environment.
National Hate Crime Awareness is an opportunity for us to stand up and stand together against hate crime and incidents in Waltham Forest.
While over 470 residents and local groups have signed the No Space for Hate pledge, we know there are many more of you out there who may wish do so so.
This week we are also welcoming expressions of interest for residents who want to participate in free Bystander Intervention training for residents, to gain tools and knowledge on how to be an ally for potential victims and to safely stop instances of harassment, abuse and violence in our streets.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll hear from some of our local residents in a series of short video messages about what they are doing to stay safe to stop the spread of Covid-19, and their own experiences of living through the pandemic.
