Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Walthom Forest

Walthamstow Library is offering walk-in sessions tomorrow, allowing thousands more residents to get vaccinated. You do not need to pre-book, if you're over 25 years old you can just turn up to get your Covid-19 vaccination tomorrow, Saturday 12 June, between 9am-6pm

If you don't live locally to Walthamstow Library and are unable to travel there, there are other vaccination options including our vaccination bus for over 40's and our weekly vaccination pop up clinic at Leytonstone Library. Or, if you'd like to book elsewhere - you can do so on the NHS website.

Please do share this information with your friends, family and community networks and spread the word! I know how meaningful it has been for me to be able to have my second Covid-19 vaccine, getting myself the protection I need to protect myself and my loved ones. I urge you to take this opportunity and do the same.

Have a great weekend.

Don't risk it - stay safe this weekend

covid

With the Euros tournament starting tonight, we know friends and family across Waltham Forest will be getting together to watch, celebrate and commiserate.

Please make sure you follow these rules and protect the people around you:

  • If you're meeting up with friends, outdoors is safest
  • If you meet indoors - open windows and doors whenever possible and stick to six
  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Wear a face covering if you can
  • Keep apart from anyone you do not live with
  • Test regularly

Thanks for helping us to keep Waltham Forest safe.

Covid-19 variants renamed

testing

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has renamed Covid-19 variants to Greek letters and the variant which was first found in India is to be called Delta.

In an interview on BBC regional radio, Dr Ken Aswani local GP and Chair of Waltham Forest Clinical Commissioning Group, says this is a good move to avoid stigmatisation of countries where new strains of the virus are first reported, including China, South Africa and the UK.

Listen to his comments on the name change, as well as on the plans to ease lockdown on 21 June and rapid testing in Waltham Forest.

Temperatures are getting hotter

heatwave

Over the next few days, the weather is set to get even hotter. Heat can be extremely dangerous for us, especially younger or elderly people.

Protect yourself from the sun by:

  • Drinking more water
  • Wearing loose, light coloured clothing
  • Staying in the shade or cooler places
  • Wearing sunscreen
  • Minisimising travel

Hot weather can be especially difficult for those sleeping rough. If there is someone you think may be sleeping rough in your neighbourhood please use the Tell Streetlink smartphone app to connect them with local support services. If someone is in immediate danger please call 999.

Keep safe in warm weather
