Enabling works update

Score Centre enabling works

Late 2020, ground investigation works, archaeology investigations and some service disconnections took place on the southern (external) areas of the Score Centre.

Following the formal granting of planning permission in late December 2020 Taylor Wimpey have started enabling works to the same area to facilitate the construction of Phase 1 of the Coronation Square redevelopment.

These works have included;

  • Clearing the site ready for the works (pictured above and below)
  • Construction of a new car park to accommodate the Score Centre users and nursery facilities
  • Removal of the old sports pitch surfacing and bases as well as the lighting columns and other surface fixtures and fittings
  • Demolition of the old Beach Hut building and removal of its foundations
  • Removal of other below ground services & obstructions
  • Removal of landscaped structures and terrace to the south elevation of the Score Centre

While some material has been removed from site throughout these works, Taylor Wimpey has also been recycling as much as possible for use as temporary hard-standings, haul roads and for the piling mat.

At present, the enabling works are coming to an end and the next stage will be to commence piling works for the foundations of the new buildings. These works are due to start this month.

Ahead of this, Taylor Wimpey will erect timber hoardings to fully enclose the site and will create a new construction access at a more southerly point on Oliver Road.

We’ll keep you updated about the main construction works in the coming weeks.
