Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Walthom Forest

Over the weekend, the rate of infection in Waltham Forest has risen significantly with new cases increasing by 49% from last week. Sadly, we have also had 18 Covid-19 deaths in the last four weeks and I'd like to extend my sympathies to anyone who has lost someone to this virus.

This is extremely concerning and I want to make sure residents understand the consequences if we do not get this under control. If cases continue to rise the government will choose to move us into tier three and increase the restrictions on all our lives.

Even if you aren't experiencing symptoms, you still need to be careful and make sure you actively help to stop the spread when you leave home. Make sure you wash your hands regularly, wear your face covering in indoor spaces and keep two metres from anyone you do not live with. It has never been more important to follow the rules to prevent the spread, get tested and self-isolate when you need to.

I know lots of our residents will be looking for ways to help others this Christmas, so we have set up a Crowdfunder campaign to support vulnerable residents through winter. If you are able to help, we welcome your support and you can read more about how you can get involved below.

Stay Safe Waltham Forest.

Are you worried about having to self-isolate?

Test and Trace

It's really important that if you experience symptoms or do test positive for Covid-19, that you stay at home and self-isolate.

We understand the complications that may bring for many people.

Whether that is because you live with others who would also need to self-isolate and you don't want to burden them or because it would put your income at risk, we do understand how worrying it can be.

However, if you do need to self isolate there is support available, including the Self-Isolation Support Payment which offers financial support through the period of self-isolation. You do have to meet a criteria for this payment including being asked to self-isolate by the NHS Test and Trace service.

Minimise your travelling this winter

Test and Trace

If you can work from home, it's really important that you continue to do so at the moment.

Even though we are in Tier 2, the guidance still states that we must minimise travel wherever possible.

If you do have to travel for work, then please make sure you wear your face covering when on public transport or are close to others and keep washing your hands regularly. Please remember you also need to wear your face covering when travelling in a taxi. By doing this, you will be protecting the people around you.

If you don't have a face covering, and need one, then we've got you covered. You can order yours on the link below.

Donate to our Christmas giving appeal

Test and Trace

The Council has set up a Crowdfunding campaign to support residents in need this Christmas and New Year’s.

The way that everyone has come together this year has been incredible. From the staff who’ve worked so tirelessly to keep services running throughout, to the volunteers and neighbours helping vulnerable people, it’s taken everybody’s effort – so thank you!

We also know that many residents whose situations allow want to help others over the festive period. Money raised from this campaign will go towards a Christmas present drive for vulnerable children and to local organisations supporting residents who face homelessness, food poverty, loneliness and vulnerable families.

Getting tested is free, quick and easy in Waltham Forest

Test and Trace

With cases rising rapidly, we want to urge you to get tested immediately if you start to feel unwell with Covid-19 symptoms.

These symptoms are:

A new, continuous cough

A high temperature

A change or loss to your sense of smell or taste

If you experience any or all of these, you must stay at home with everyone you live with, and book a test by calling 119 or visiting the NHS website.

We have two walk-in test sites and a drive-in site as well, and tests are also available for home delivery. Testing is free, quick and easy so please don't delay.

Protect the vulnerable in your life

Test and Trace

If you live in a multi-generational household, it can be really challenging and worrying to keep everyone safe from Covid-19.

In these colder months and with cases rising, it's never been more important to protect the vulnerable people you live or spend time with.

If you do live with or visit a vulnerable person in your life, take these measures to protect them:

  • Regularly clean any shared bathrooms every time they are used
  • Keep two metres away from them wherever possible, even if you do live together
  • Do not visit a vulnerable person if you feel unwell
  • If you experience symptoms or have confirmed Covid-19, consider wearing a face covering in shared parts of the household

If you need more guidance on how to protect those in your life who are vulnerable, please visit the government website.
