Town Centre goes virtual

Leytonstone Loves Local logo

The Leytonstone Town Team has been working with the Council to launch a virtual high street for the area.

This will showcase the wealth of businesses and highlight how you can purchase goods in person, via click and collect or delivery.

The website is set to launch on Small Business Saturday, 5 December 2020 and will also host details of the Town Centre’s exciting lighting and projection displays from its Light Up Leytonstone programme this December.

You can also follow what's happening on Instagram @leytonstoneloveslocal

Lighting up Leytonstone

Leytonstone is presenting a series of magical pop-up lighting displays throughout December.

Local artists, Greenaway and Greenaway, are working with the Council to create projections and light installations to bring life and joy into Leytonstone Town Centre this Christmas.

The Light Up Leytonstone switch on will be on Small Business Saturday, 5 December 2020, and everyone is invited to explore the town centre and seek out the luminations, while maintaining social distancing.

Launching the light show will be iDEER2.0, allowing passers-by to glimpse the elusive Fallow Deer that roam across the town centre for the night. This builds on last year’s iDEER projection show, which was a much-loved addition to High Street ADVENTures in Walthamstow.

iDeer2.0 will be in the town centre on Saturday 5 and Saturday 12 December, 2020 from 4pm until 7pm

This magical experience will allow people to reconnect with the majesty and wonder of the nature on their doorstep. Expect a surprise twist with iDEER 2.0!

St Johns Church Leytonstone

Visitors will also spot some bespoke interventions in empty shops, which will host Future Festive Forms, a series of abstract light treatments celebrating sparkling festive symbols, in the form of projections and LED installations.

Future Festive Forms will be in the town centre on Saturday 5 and Saturday 12 December, 2020 from 4pm until 9pm

Central to the show will be St John’s Church, that will be awash with colour throughout December, from 4pm until 9pm.

2020 would have been the sixth year of Leyton&Stone Designers Christmas Markets!

Organisers Esme and Liz said: “Due to COVID-19 we won’t be able to enjoy the lovely socialness, music and fun of the markets, as well as the browsing each other’s stalls, chatting with customers, posing for photos with Santa and mulled wine, but we can do a small online event to try and help those traders who'd usually be getting ready for our markets about now!"

This virtual market ends on Friday 11 December 2020.
