In September Barts NHS Hospital Trust was given the green light to move forward to the next stage in developing more detailed plans for building a new hospital at Whipps Cross, along with related works.
Whipps Cross is one of six new hospitals to benefit from £2.7billion of funding, subject to business case approvals, as part of the Government’s Health Infrastructure programme.
Barts Health NHS Trust has published ‘Building a Brighter Future for Whipps Cross – Moving to the next stage’.
This offers a summary of the vision for the new Whipps Cross Hospital and follows the Government’s endorsement of the Trust’s Strategic Outline Case (SOC), providing formal confirmation of the Trust’s progression to the next stage of the business case process.
The next stage will include developing detailed is to start deisgns designs for the new hospital and this meeting is an opportunityh for residents to hear about the work, ask questions and share their views.

The new Whipps Cross Hospital will continue to provide the same core services as today, including A&E and maternity services, but will improve the way these services are delivered, including faster and more convenient care for patients and in the very best facilities that are purpose built for modern healthcare delivery.
The Trust has printed a one-page summary of its vision for the future.
The next stage is for the Trust to develop its Outline Business Case (OBC), which will provide more detail of plans to improve health and care services for the local population, design a new hospital building that is fit for purpose and develop the site for the local community.
This next phase of detailed planning is also considering the long-term impact on the hospital and on other health and care services of the response to Covid-19 as well as work by a newly appointed architect-led design team to involve service users and staff in shaping the hospital’s design.

Staff and community engagement are at the heart of the redevelopment plans. Please do get in touch to share your views and ideas on the redevelopment.
In addition the hospital’s #FutureWhipps campaign is encouraging people to share what a new hospital means to them and to send a tweet or upload a video using the hashtag #FutureWhipps.

Now many NHS services are reopening it is important that residents start coming for treatment in a safe way.
Barts NHS Trust has created a range of videos aimed at encouraging our local communities to seek help when they need it, be it through A&E, attending an outpatient appointment, maternity services or when having surgery.
Londoners responded fantastically to the call to stay at home when the outbreak began – the challenge for the NHS now is in encouraging residents to now seek treatment when they need it.
