 For many of us who want to support local shops and businesses on high streets during Covid-19 in and around North Chingford including Station Road, King’s Road and the Green, it can be difficult to know where to begin.
Last month we launched our Choose Local. Support Everyone. campaign, aimed at encouraging people to shop locally and support local businesses as we gradually emerge from lockdown.
However, we also know many of you need to spend your money carefully at this time. Luckily, there are many other ways you can get involved with the campaign and support our brilliant businesses in North Chingford:
- Like and follow your favourite shops on social media (use #ChooseLocalWF wherever possible)
- Engage with posts and share stories use (#ChooseLocalWF wherever possible)
- Leave online reviews of your experience
- Sign up to their mailing list
- Spread the word by telling your neighbours about good experiences
North Chingford Market will be open for business on Saturday 15 August 2020.
We will be piloting a new layout for the market to make it easier for shopps and traders to maintain social distancing while getting the maximum number of stalls in the space available.
The market is open on then first and third Saturday of each month.

From Monday 3 to Monday 31 August 2020, get a 50 per cent discount when you eat in at restaurants that are registered with the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme.
Use the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme :
- to get a 50 per cent discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in (up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner)
- every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between Monday 3 and Monday 31 August
- as many times as you like
- All diners in a group of any size can use the discount.
You do not need a voucher to use this scheme and you can use it at the same time as other offers and discounts. There is no minimum spend. You cannot claim discount on alcoholic drinks or service charges.
The discount will be automatically available to you at participating establishments, which will then claim a reimbursement from the government for the discount they’ve given you.

The next few months will be critical for the future of our high streets and we have taken further action to increase the support available.
We are working with national organisation SaveTheHighStreet.org to provide a range of free, personalised, hands-on support.
We would encourage North Chingford businesses to register and get involved, in the webinars, collaboration opportunities and information available from Save the High Street.
Businesses in North Chingford are also able to take part in the very comprehensive online diagnostic. As part of the support you will get a 30 minute call back to discuss the results, as well as a report and you can participate in the 20 webinars, which will point you to other support and give you some actions to take forward as a business.
'Save The High Street Waltham Forest' complements the recent successful launch of the Council's Choose Local. Support Everyone. campaign and will be rolled out across the borough from this week. Registrations are now open.

Businesses in Chingford can get a free listing in the Waltham Forest Connected Business Directory, which is now being widely promoted as part of the Council's campaign to support our High Streets.
Social media advertisements are being run to help reach more customers, helping them find everything they need locally at the click of a button.
The Council also featured the directory in the July edition of Waltham Forest News, which went to 100,000 addresses across the borough.
We encourage all local businesses to submit their business directory listing to get the message out that they are still trading.
All you need to do is add your details and provide a small amount of information about the products and services you offer.

We are trialling a socially-distanced Dr Bike session at Chingford Green, on Saturday 22 August 2020, 10am - 4pm.
Experienced mechanics will check over all the main components of your bike, and carry out any needed adjustments and lubrication.
Minor repairs such as punctures and brake cables are fixed on the spot for FREE, and should your bike need any more advanced work they will tell you exactly what is needed and how much a bike shop would typically charge for the work.
Please book a time slot to secure your appointment. Each time slot is 30 minutes.

A Design Team has now been appointed for the project and there will be opportunities in September for the local community to feed into proposals for the site.
Following community engagement, the detailed designs will be considered by the Council’s Cabinet in December 2020. If Cabinet gives the green light, a planning application for the site will then be submitted early in 2021.

Age UK is based in Chingford Mount and is still holding their exercise classes and computer classes online as well as special interest talks.
A programme called Zoom is used to host the classes and will send you a link to access the activities.
If you think you would like to attend a class but are nervous about trying Zoom, do let them know by email and they will guide you through the process in advance of your chosen sessions.
They are all free to attend during lockdown.

As part of its routine work the independent Boundary Commission has published its recommended changes for Waltham Forest Council.
The changes aim to make each councillor represent around the same number of residents.
The boundaries of every Ward in the borough change, some wards disappear, and some new wards are created.
Overall there will still be 60 councillors but there will be 21 wards instead of the current 20.
Currently every Ward has three councillors. Under the new proposals there will be 18 wards with three councillors and three wards with two councillors.
The consultation allows any individual or organisation to comment on the Boundary Commission's recommendations.
The closing date for consultation responses is Monday 14 September 2020.
