Redesigning scheme ready for more engagement

Priory Court red line plan

It’s been some time since we last contacted you regarding this scheme.

The COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on the scheme but in recent weeks the team has been working hard to redesign the scheme following all the comments received.

We hope that work will be completed in the near future so we can then hold a virtual engagement event in early autumn to share the latest designs with you.

If a scheme is approved it is hoped to start work on site in early 2021.

Please do encourage neighbours and those interested in the development to sign up for the email newsletter which will contain details of the next virtual engagement event.

Community Centre back in service

Oriory Court Baby Bank

The Priory Court Community Centre has re-opened for some of its services and is operating normal office hours, Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm.

Special COVID-19 measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of users of the centre. Please ensure you follow the guidelines on social distancing if you are coming into the centre.

The Centre continues to provide a base for Lloyd Park Children’s Charity Babybank (pictured), whose service has seen a large increase in demand due to the pandemic.

A food rescue project that has been set up by local residents at the centre and funded via the council’s Community Ward Funding.

We are not able to offer meeting rooms, hot desking space or bookings for private parties at present.

The team is happy to discuss special requirements or support that might be required by residents.

Priory Court bulk disposal area closed

Priory Court bulk waste area fly tipping

The bulk disposal area, next to Washington House, has been closed following a meeting with residents and the housing team about the issue of rubbish left illegally in the area.

The dumping of rubbish in the area has had a negative impact on the general environment of Priory Estate, especially for residents who live next to the area.

A number of individuals caught dumping rubbish have been fined.

Residents should pass any information and evidence of fly tipping in Priory Court to the housing team who can take enforcement action.

Residents who need to dispose of large items should leave them next to the bins area, without blocking access, and inform the caretakers who can arrange removal.

Ward boundaries to change for next council elections

Ballot Box voting

As part of its routine work the Boundary Commission has published its recommended changes for Waltham Forest Council.

The changes aim to make each councillor represent around the same number of residents.

The boundaries of every Ward in the borough change, some wards disappear, and some new wards are created.

Overall there will still be 60 councillors but there will be 21 wards instead of the current 20.

Currently every Ward has three councillors. Under the new proposals there will be 18 wards with three councillors and three with two councillors.

Read the full report

The consultation allows any individual or organisation to comment on the Boundary Commission's recommendations.

The closing date for consultation responses is Monday 14 September 2020.
