Work restarts on housing development

Essex Close Walthamstow CGI

On Tuesday 26 May 2020 the contractor who will build 20 new homes, 50 per cent for Council rent, in Essex Close, Walthamstow, will restart work in line with guidance from Government and the Construction Leadership Council.

Twenty-five per cent of the workforce during construction will be local residents as well as including two apprentices and two work placements.

The new housing development, which will be delivered by Sixty Bricks the council's own development company, includes:

  • 20 new homes in two four-storey buildings
  • 50 per cent will be affordable with priority given to Waltham Forest residents
  • A mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes
  • Two fully wheelchair accessible homes
  • Two parking bays for use by people with disabilities living in the new homes
  • Landscaped communal garden
  • Cycle storage
  • Waste storage including recycling facilities

What happens when?

Essex Close site plan

The first stage of the work will include moving the northern site boundary and some work on the trees.

In June piling is due to start on site to prepare the foundations.

To allow deliveries to the site there will be some changes to parking availability in the area.

The new homes should be completed by Autumn 2021.
