Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Walthom Forest

Dear residents,

Tonight, the Government announced it would be extending the lockdown period for another three weeks. This means we continue to practice social distancing, and only leave the house unless absolutely necessary, to exercise, do our grocery shopping, or travel to work if we cannot work from home. I would like to reassure you that we have plans in place so we can continue to deliver vital services.

Join us at 8pm this evening from your front doorstep, garden, balcony, window and #clapforourcarers... Healthcare workers, emergency services, armed services, delivery drivers, shop workers, teachers, waste collectors, manufacturers, postal workers, cleaners, vets, engineers and all those who are out there making an unbelievable difference to our lives in these challenging times… we salute you, you are amazing!

I want to thank each and every one of you who has changed your everyday life, it has been challenging but I am so proud of the way Waltham Forest has come together.

Primary school places announced

school

Parents with children who are due to start primary school in September will receive their primary school place offer this evening by email and those who have applied using the paper form will receive notification by post in the next few days.

In the borough over 97 per cent of children due to start primary school have been offered a place at one of their preferred schools.

Online mental health support for young people

kooth

We know our young residents might feel anxious, stressed or worried during this time.

Kooth is a FREE, safe and anonymous online tool for young people where they can find advice and support. Other helpful tools and support can also be found on our website.

William Morris Gallery comes to you

You can't visit William Morris Gallery at the moment, so we're bringing the Gallery to you as part of the Virtual Culture programme.

Every Wednesday at 12.15pm, for a small donation, you can join a Zoom talk looking in detail at a topic related to Morris or our wider collection. If you're a Waltham Forest resident you can join without donating by using the code WFVIRTUALCULTURE.

While the Gallery's closed to the public, we're using Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to bring our world class collection to you.

If you’ve never visited before, you’ll get a sense of how we tell Morris's story. And if you’re a regular visitor, we hope you’ll enjoy some new perspectives on familiar objects.

Do you need financial help?

If you require financial relief or assistance, we may be able to help. We know that this is a difficult time for many people so have pulled together a list of useful links and advice if you are struggling with money.

Visit our website for options and support. This could range from housing payments, help with paying Council Tax, or welfare assistance for bills or food.

Bereavement Support

We know that sadly some people will be dealing with the death of a loved one, which we understand is very difficult in any circumstances.

Unfortunately, normal practices and traditions may be affected due to restrictions that have been put in place.

This will be particularly upsetting for bereaved families, but the Council and other organisations are working hard to ensure the process remains dignified, respectful and supportive. Our website has a range of services that may help.

Small Business Grants - £11 million pound given out so far

small business

In the last week, the team have been working extra hard to administer the £54 million in grants provided by the Government. So far we have administered £11 million of this, which will make a difference to the lives of small business owners in Waltham Forest.

Are you a local business with concerns about grants or business rate relief?  Please click this link to check your eligibility and submit your details.

Help us keep parks open

Green spaces and parks in the borough are a lifeline to many of us and we are determined to keep them open while also ensuring that everyone follows the government guidance around social distancing.

Please help us by only using them for exercising and not for meeting friends, playing sport or sunbathing. Our officers will be patrolling and people doing the wrong thing may be fined.

Council Services

A number of Council services have been affected but we are working hard to ensure that vital services continue.

Visit our website for up to date information on our services and how to access them.
