Across the borough we have seen an amazing response from the community as we work together to face Coronavirus and protect our vulnerable residents. Whether it be through donations to food banks, people signing up to be volunteers, contributing to our crowdfunding effort or registering their interest in joining an army of home carers to help relieve pressure off our hospitals, I am truly thankful and inspired.
With the weekend ahead we must not be tempted to ignore Government advice and the social distancing rules, only leaving the house to exercise or buy groceries or for an emergency. If you do go outside, please keep two metres from each other and be sensible. We know how important parks and open spaces are to everyone, especially at this time, so please use them wisely. If you don't, we may be forced to close them for the safety of our residents and Council officers.
Stay safe everyone.

From 6pm tonight (Friday) we will be restricting access to Sidmouth Park, Cathall Green and Langthorne Park in the south of the borough as we have seen people not adhering social distancing rules. These parks will reopen in the morning.
Our enforcement officers will be out patrolling over the weekend to ensure that people do the right thing, most of you are, so thank you for that.
We know that staying at home and self isolating can be trying. However anyone could have coronavirus. Even if you don’t have symptoms, you could still be at risk of passing the infection to vulnerable people.
We urge residents to adhere to social distancing and not leave their house unless absolutely necessary.
Don’t be selfish. Stay home. Save lives.

As we work with Whipps Cross Hospital to help free up beds, we require more care staff making home visits to help our residents. You could be a resident, volunteer, looking for short term paid work or looking to get into care work – no experience will be necessary. Watch our video to see how you can get involved.
Thank you to over 200 people who have already expressed an interest to work with our team of care and support workers, we are so grateful for your support as we all work together to fight coronavirus.
We have had an amazing response and are working hard to get in touch with everyone as soon as possible.
To express an interest email us with your name, postcode and a contact number. Or for more info visit out website.

We’re hugely thankful to everyone who has donated to our Crowdfunder! We have had over 100 people donate so far... This money will be directed to voluntary and charity organisations helping vulnerable residents.
Can you help us to raise £15,000?
If your circumstances allow and you would like to donate, you can do so here.
Also a big thank you to Hotel Chocolat for donating 3,500 packs of chocolate to our Community Help Network – everyone needs a treat, particularly in these tough times. They will be a great addition to the food parcels that we’ll be packing and sending to the residents who need it most.

At the start of the week we put a call out for donations of personal protective equipment which includes face masks, disposable gloves, aprons. This equipment protects our care workers on the front line when they take care of patients returning from hospital back into the community and reduces the pressure on Whipps Cross Hospital. We have now received three large crate loads so far from residents and local businesses, a true testament to the community spirit and generosity of people. Pictured here is the 12,000 gloves and 300 masks our Housing Repairs partner Morgan Sindall donated - fantastic!
You can still donate. Drop of PPE at The Magistrates or email us and we can arrange collection.

Our Waste and Recycling team are working hard to provide the best possible service while we are dealing with the COVID-19 crisis. We want to keep the streets clean, keep collecting your rubbish and make sure your recycling bins continue to be emptied as often as possible, while protecting the health of all our workers as well as the general public.
You can help by:
♦ Avoiding doing big clear-outs while at home, bulky waste collections have stopped.
♦ Don't approach crews when they're working
♦ Make sure your bin is accessible
♦ Put the correct waste in each bin
♦ Be patient - there may be delays
More information can be found here.
We recognise that it is a challenging time for children who have special educational needs and disabilities, and for those with emotional and mental health needs.
A helpful resource pack for parents is available to download online, with tips on how to explain the COVID-19 crisis, and activities designed for SEND children.
You can download it here.
Following Government instructions some Council services are being reduced to ensure the safety of both residents and staff.
A number of services have been affected but we are working hard to ensure that vital services continue. You can get up to date information on our services and how to access them by clicking here.
