Help shape the Avenue Road future

Avenue Road Estate

Avenue Road residents are invited to attend a workshop to share what they would like to see if the decision is taken to redevelop the estate.

This is an opportunity for residents to look at the current design of the estate and discuss what changes they would like to see.

The workshop, run by Newman Francis, Independent Tenant Resident Adviser(ITRA), is on Tuesday, 10 March, 4.30 - 6pm.

Residents can find out about the process of regeneration, residents’ charters, impact on tenants and leaseholders and how to get involved.

The workshop takes place at the Nexus Centre, 3 Snowberry Close, London E15 2AH.

To attend the workshop please email

The Council is also holding weekly project shops for residents wanting more information on the regeneration proposals.

• Mondays, 2 - 5pm
• Thursdays, 9.30am - 1:30pm

These are also held at the Nexus Centre. Just pop in, no appointment needed.

Keeping emergency access open

No parking sign

You will begin to see new notices posted around the Avenue Road Estate.

These notices detail the planned introduction of new signage and road markings to the access routes that need to be kept clear at all times.

We are doing this so that emergency services have clear access to your block in the event of an emergency.

We plan to introduce the new emergency signage and road markings on the estate by the end of May.

Once that work has been done parking enforcement officers will routinely check if anyone is parking in the restricted areas and issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) to offending vehicles.

Vehicles causing an obstruction may be removed from the road and a fee would then be payable for the release in addition to the PCN.

Parkguard on patrol

Parkguard patrol vehicle and staff

You might notice a new team of uniformed officers and vehicles around the Avenue Road Estate.

Parkguard has been brought on board to assist the Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Team in tackling low-level crime and community safety across the borough.

The uniformed officers work closely with ASB Officers and the Metropolitan Police in bringing long-terms solutions to community issues and providing high-visibility patrols to keep residents safe.

As well as carrying out patrols of estates and ASB hotspots, the team will be talking to young people and residents.

They have the powers to enforce Public Space Protection Orders and they will be referring rough sleepers and individuals with alcohol and drug problems to the local services that can really help them.

Parkguard will also be carrying out joint operations with Police and the Council to tackle ASB issues.

Let's make it clear

blocked corridor

The Council has zero tolerance to items being left in the communal areas.

If there is an emergency in your block, the fire service needs clear and unhindered access along all landings which might be filled with smoke.

We appreciate that space is limited; however all the communal areas and landings must be CLEAR AT ALL TIMES.

This means all bikes or toys must be kept inside your home.

The Environmental Services Team has been instructed to remove any item left in the communal areas that can cause an obstruction.

Dispose of your rubbish properly

black refuse sack bin bag

Some residents are dumping black bags and large items of rubbish by the chute area on their landing.

Please remember that it's your responsibility to dispose of refuse properly.

Always put your refuse down the chute. If it is too large to fit in the chute take it down to the ground floor and dispose of it correctly in the bins or recycling bins.

Leaving rubbish on the landings creates mess, potential health hazards and could attract vermin.

Anyone found abandoning refuse on the landing faces being charged with fly tipping that could lead to a fine of up to £400.

Joint operation evicts squatters

squat on Avenue Road

A joint operation between the Council's Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) Team and the Metropolitan Police led to the successful removal of squatters who had taken up residence in an intake cupboard (pictured, right) on the Avenue Road Estate.

The squat had no bathroom facilities and the rough sleepers were creating mess and were an enormous concern to residents.

If you see rough sleepers around the estate send an alert to our dedicated outreach team via StreetLink.

They can come out and talk to the rough sleeper and direct them to local organisations that will help get them off the streets.

If you are aware of squatters or rough sleepers on the estate you can also contact your housing officer.
