From Monday 2 March 2020 your bin collection day is most likely changing, as the Council makes the routes travelled by collection crews more efficient for our borough.
The new routes have been selected to keep vehicle emissions to a minimum and save time between collections, with all bins being collected from your property on the same day each week.
Residents will also be able to recycle more than ever, as we expand our collections to include small electrical items, clothing including pairs of shoes and household batteries. To have these new items collected, you will need to leave them out on top of your green and brown recycling bins on their normal collection day, inside a plastic bag.
All households will receive a leaflet informing them of their new collection day, but you can also check online.

There’s family fun to be had in Church Lane, Leytonstone when an ice rink is installed for the last two weekends of February.
With music, light shows and penguins this is a family fun not to miss. The rink will be synthetic, meaning it's suitable for all ages and abilities including first time skaters. Make sure to come along and check it out.

Did you know that roughly 20% of Waltham Forest’s population move in and out of the borough every year?
Arriving in a new place can be both exciting but can also be confusing and challenging at times. New residents may be staying in temporary accommodation, an asylum seeker or economic migrant who may not be familiar with English or someone who has moved to a different part of the borough and wants to meet people.
As part of the Connecting Communities programme we have developed information for new residents to help them find their feet and make this borough their home. From when to put the bins out, how to register with a GP, what benefits you might be entitled to or where your nearest community centre is.

Waltham Forest is leading the way on tackling hate incidents. Our Citizens Assembly is only weeks away and we want to thank the 300 residents that have shared their experiences of hate incidents by completing our survey.
Results from the survey will be used by the Assembly, so we can take action to address important issues and make Waltham Forest a better place to live for everyone.

A new not-for-profit organisation, Capital Letters has been established between 13 London boroughs, including Waltham Forest, to improve the supply of good quality rented accommodation in the Capital.
The new organisation procures and manages London accommodation from private landlords and managing agents to prevent and relieve homelessness across the Capital. Capital Letters provide a high-quality one-stop service to landlords and managing agents, offering them fast payment and other incentives, and assurance including protection of their rental income and insurance to safeguard their property. The project, supported by London Councils and the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) aims to provide homes for 20,000 households by 2022.

Last week was National Apprenticeship Week, which saw a hive of activity across our borough. We spoke to apprentices at the Council, including at the Adult Learning Service centre, as well as those based with our contractor Aston. One of these apprentices was June-Ann Joseph, who is a HR Project Officer completing her CIPD Level 3 qualification.
